The Great Glasshouse

Crowning the lush town of Vil'Saroth, the Great Glasshouse is an enormous dome that serves as a conservatory and laboratory for the horticulturalists and botanists that call the town their home. It is the largest greenhouse in the entire mountain kingdom and represents the pinnacle of horticultural science in Isturoth.

Purpose / Function

This wonder of horticulture and botanical expertise was built to showcase the wealth of vegetation and knowledge the region has to offer, courtesy of the Royal Botanical Society. It houses over 750 plant species as well as hydroponic ponds and experimental laboratories. Those farmers and scholars that wish access to the temperature-regulated facility are required to be members of the Royal Botanical Society established within Vil'Saroth. Once they are, they can grow or study unique species not seen anywhere else, test experimental growing techniques, or merely wander through the beautiful gardens.

Design

The building is predominantly constructed from steel and glass. It is domed and T-shaped with a larger dome bulging out of the centre. This is the main garden area that is kept humid and warm. Three separate wings adjoin this section, each one maintained at different temperatures and humidities to stimulate plant growth.

History

Following the deposition of Vil'Saroth's previous lord, those who followed were required to clear the fortress of it's overgrown vegetation in order to renovate and repair it. They recognised what a unique location the town was in for growing plantlife, so to prove this to their superiors, they built the Great Glashouse. So impressed were they by this magnificent structure, they allowed the caretakers to transform the military stronghold into a botanical haven.

Environmental Effects

The air humidity and density is the most notable environmental effect of the Glasshouse. It can simulate environmental conditions that are difficult to find occurring naturally in the world.
