The group stood victorious over the captain and his men, but before they could decide to head below deck a group of lizardfolk had opened up their cabin and questioned the party. While they were difficult to negotiate with, after some conversation it was discovered that the lizardfolk had purchased arms from these smugglers and were being brought back to the aid them on the war against the 'sea devils'. Deciding that this was not a fight they wanted to engage in, Zelem bluffed that this was in fact their ship, and offered to honor the original arrangement.
The Lizardfolk agreed, and had a brief drink of some strange wine/beer combination before the group departed to investigate the remainder of the ship. The payment for the lizardfolks arms was found as well as some other valuables, before they stumbled upon more of the smugglers below deck. They surrendered, not wishing to fight, and were informed they were now under new employment. Unwilling to challenge the obviously competent group, they agreed, but something was coming towards the ship.
Once they entered the torchlight, a large compliment of Saltmarsh guard was spotted rowing out to meet them! Zelem thought quickly and morphed into his upstanding alter-ego Valor Windsail. The group was confronted by a guard leader named Benjamin Duville, and with 'Valor' having already made good with the guard he managed to convince the fat man that they had came on board to stop the smugglers themselves. He thanked Valor for the upstanding job, but before much more could be said the Lizardfolk were discovered and the guard had a fright. Unsure what to make of it, they took Valors word that they were harmless, and allowed them to leave. Tifa and Zelem went below and snagged the Lizards weapons to honor their arrangement, and bid the guards farewell.
Once ashore, the party confronted Gellans men about the possible mole in their midst, but decided it was unlikely to be these men and more than likely was the incompetent Lucky. Tifa paid them a few hundred gold to finish transporting the Lizardfok down the shore to their homes, and the pair bid farewell to their other companions and set off back to Saltmarsh. Back at the Empty Net, Zelem arranged a meeting with Ichard and Gellan, and Tifa gathered up her adopted children and proceeded back to the mansion alone. Zelem met his employer, and delivered his report.
Once finished, Gellan invited Zelem to his manor in a few days where he wished him to meet with someone. Eda Oweland, another council member, had a daughter, and the two council members wished for the two to pair up and solve some of their problems that they could not otherwise solve directly. He agreed, and spent the next few days honing his abilities and selling a few items at the Saltmarsh Weekly Market.
A few days later Zelem and his new half-elven companion Morrigan Oweland met at the Primewater Mansion. Mr. Gellan Primewater explained to the two the situation, and expressed his disdain that the guard was ran by a member of the council, a loyalist to Bards Gate by the name of Eliander Fireborn. With the guard opposing them, it was becoming more and more difficult to enact their plans without interference. He and Eda wished to break this alliance by having someone propose it to the council hall that a council member may not also be the guard captain, to find a suitable replacement for Eliander that is loyal to the traditionalists interests, and to make sure the guard themselves are accepting of this change and their new leader. With the task at hand, the formidable duo enjoyed a night of luxury at the mansion, with music, wine and fine dining enjoyed with the new company.
