The Owelands
The Owelands are a powerful and influential noble family that call the town of Saltmarsh home. The familial line can be traced back to the days when Saltmarsh was a part of the Monarchy of Foere, but years of isolation from the crown led to the town being independent and the crowns titles were officially lost. Over the years the family lost some of its prior prestige, and with Saltmarsh joining the suzerainty of Bards Gate, the families nobility has fallen into decline. Thanks to Edas work and the efforts of the rest of the family, the Owelands still control many assets and stations throughout the northeastern portion of the plains of mayfurrow and the Oweland name still commands respect.
Members of the Oweland Family
Family TreeMorrigan Oweland
Morrigan Oweland is the half elf Matriarch of the Oweland family. During her 20's, as is common for Half-elves she developed a wanderlust and was not seen for many years, to the dismay of her mother. Now that she has returned to Saltmarsh, she has taken back up the Oweland mantle and begun to get involved in the local areas politics. With her mothers untimely death has has assumed the mantle of Matriarch of the family. She now owns the Oweland estate as well as the families fishing fleet.Eda Oweland
Eda is the former Matriarch of the family, an elderly women that has become less active in her later years but still commanded respect wherever she goes. Eda had one daughter, born to an unknown elf that she has been unwilling to share details of. She made Morrigan her heir, granting her the Oweland name. Afterwards, Eda married Hector from the Garthrin family, who was her husband for many years and was a large part of Morrigans upbringing. It was revealed that Hector was a worshipper of Hecate, an evil deity whose cult has caused much damage to the stability of the region. Eda managed to clear her name, convincing the good people that she knew not of this and that it a recent development while she had focused on Saltmarsh's politics. When he was cast down by the paladin, the Garthrins fell into ruin as many were slain in the Darnagal purges of Muir. It took many years for the Oweland name to recover, but the misdeeds of the past are now a distant memory and most have forgotten the controversy. An unknown assailant struck Eda dead in her own home, passing the mantle of family Matriarch to her daughter, Morrigan Oweland.Lionel Oweland
Retired near Gleamshore. Runs a walled estate with varies crops including Olives, dates, honey and a dabbling in grapes. Married to Claire of the Turner family. The dissolution of that family following the destruction of Kennmouth was a major blow to the Owelands, who married two prominent Owelands to their daughters and now had found their previous alliance gone.Claire Oweland
Married into the Family from the Turner family who disappeared following the destruction of Kennmouth.Leon Oweland
With his fathers retirement, he has been granted Mayorship over the small town of Gleamshore. Collects taxes, manages the local farmland including the local areas defenses, and presides over town functions. The two twins have not had much contact with the Matriarch of the family Eda Oweland in some time, but still defer to her for family matters.Isabel Oweland
The daughter of Lionel and Claire, Isabel aids her twin brother in the management of the Gleamshore.Melvira Oweland
Melvira is distantly related to Eda but still bares the Oweland name. In an effort to strengthen relations between Saltmarsh and Riverside and alleviate tensions between them, Eda arranged to have Melvira marry one of their sons named Wyldon. Wyldon spends much of his time at sea as captain of a sailing ship owned by Eda, one of her few large trading vessels that goes to distant lands. Melvira and her children stay at the Oweland estate, as does Wyldon when he is ashore.Wyldon Oweland
Married into the family by means of the Bolsters from Riverside, their marriage has strengthened the previous tensions between the crown loyalist city of Riverside and Saltmarsh, who joined the Suzerainty of Bards Gate.Lukas Oweland
Lukas is easily recognizable from the large scar on his left eye. While he does not, or claims to not, remember the event that caused it, from the day it appeared he has exhibited a natural magical energy. Eda enrolled both him and Penny in the Seaside Seminary in hopes of not only developing his learning but possibly his magical prowess. Since then he has been able to master simple magic, but has not grown a significant amount since his schooling began.Penny Oweland
Penny is still too young to take up any responsibility in the Oweland family much like her brother, but the two are learned students at the local temple. She is a natural born swimmer and often swims to the bottom of the harbor in search of trinkets dropped by sailors. She has incredibly clear vision underwater, seeing fairly well in low light and in the murky waters.Seamus Oweland
Seamus Oweland is the brother of Eda Oweland and Uncle of Morrigan. He is often perceived as a somewhat of an incompetent fellow but in charge of the more mundane aspects of Eda Owelands fishing business. He is easily pushed around, but is good with numbers and hiring and minute details, and puts these skills to work in making sure the fishing crews are stocked with workers. Because of him the fishing industry is flowing smoothly. His wife left years ago and went north to who-knows-where, leaving him alone with a daughter named Robin and a daughter named Tarinne, who was married off to the Ormonds in Orlane.Robin Oweland
She is the daughter of Seamus Oweland and a well-liked member of the Oweland Family. She is quite strong, and when she came of age she joined the now disbanded group, “The Sea Shepherds Mercenary Company“. While most of the company either retired or left for the liberation of Bards Gate a few years ago, she returned to her family in Saltmarsh and later joined the town guard. She is fairly idealistic in her nobility, and believes it is the right of the powerful to protect the weak. She hates Orcs, having spent a lot of time fighting them and their cruelty. The Matriarch of the family (Eda Oweland) wishes for her to take a more active role in the family business, but she still owes allegiance to her old company and currently serves under their number at the south gate.
