Eda Oweland
Eda was a beloved, elderly noble of Saltmarsh who was murdered in her own home by an unknown assailant.
Even well into her later years she was heavily active in the community. She moved with purpose and grace, her posture and manners befit a lifetime of nobility. When Eda spoke her words carried weight, a simple elevation of her voice commanded respect. She liked to play the role of the friendly grandmother, but this betrayed her drive, ambition and intellect. Before her demise, Eda wass the Matriarch of the Oweland family, the position now falling on her half-elven daughter Morrigan.
Before her passing she owned much property throughout the village and invested in various enterprises, but her main source of income was her small fishing fleet. She sat firmly on the side of hte traditionalists of Saltmarsh, ever suspicious of the incursion Bards Gates influence. She doubted that the dwarves’ mining enterprise would amount to much, and instead believed in expanding Saltmarsh’s fishing industry. The folk in town who supported her appreciated her willingness to stick up for them, as if anyone in town needs help, Eda is the first to volunteer her aid. She believed community binds people together and allows them to ride out the fiercest storm. Saltmarsh is Eda’s home and she was willing to protect it to her dying breath and wants its people to prosper. Eda was suspicious of outsiders, and she was often too quick to trust those familiar to her.
Eda was the eldest member of the town council and held the position for life, as laid out by the original charter when Saltmarsh joined the suzerainty of Bards Gate. Whith her passing, the position is now open.
