Morovar

When House Morovar was powerful, and their Duke was a strong leader within his Castle-Court in the bespoke city, Morovar rivaled Heliogabalus and was for a time even the seat of Damaran power. But that time passed leaving Morovar in decline. Forsaken by the Warrior Wizard Dimian Ree when he moved the seat of power from Morov to Heliogabalus (during his short reign as King of Damara) the city carried a broken spirit for decades. Even before the Bloodstone Wars most of Morov’s nobles had abandoned Morovar to follow their heroic leader. Morovar was soon simply disregarded. During the troubled times following the onset of the first Bloodstone War, the remaining militia became hardened, cruel, and pragmatic; frequently switching sides and allying themselves with some of the worst characters of the conflict.   During the first Bloodstone War, Morovar became the headquarters of Zhengyi's secret police - the Shadow Guard - after it peacefully surrendered to invading forces in late 1350. Its militia saw almost no fighting. The Shadow Guard constructed the Fortress Archive where the previous Castle-Court of Dimian Ree once stood on the raised hill of the central fortification. Many unspeakably horrible acts are said to have occurred within. The locals do not go into it and claim that it is haunted.   Ironically, Morovar is the birthplace of the hero Llysander Garwin. His family did not stay here long, but his childhood home would still exist somewhere within the walls of the never-razed city.   In 1366 the city was liberated, and the usually slow to act Morovar Militia played a surprisingly pivotal role in sabotaging the defenses of the Shadow Guard. Their actions allowed a facet of the Bloodstone Host to breach the outer gates easily and take it with minimal damage. However, the gruesome battles in the Fortress Archive took a major toll on many of the liberating Knights and wiped out almost half of the Morovar Militia. The fortress was sealed, but never successfully destroyed.   Visiting Morovar today is like walking into a city of old Damara. The buildings are constructed in the flat unimpressive style of two centuries past and were never updated. The only remarkable structure in the city is the ruin of the Fortress Archive.

Defences

The Morovar Militia is a moderately trained, somewhat corrupt, band of mercenaries and disgraced Knights. Their leader is the nondescript Half-Elf Fighter Bramblethorne who is reasonably loyal to the current Baron. They number less than 100 with varying degrees of skill (but none better than 2nd level Fighter).

Industry & Trade

Regardless of its present difficulties, the high-walled city retains its importance as a port on the Goliad River. Morovar also serves as a collection market for the produce farmed in the fertile lands of the barony.
