Patient S.H.A.C.O

Shaco, also known as patient S.H.A.C.O. or the S.H.A.C.O. patient, is a shyft circus clown with a few warped views about the world.
Shortly after his spawning, he became the primary patient in the S.H.A.C.O. Project, led by myself. This project, with the aid of the S.H.A.C.O. patient's physiology, provided insights as to the possibility of self-healing cells - something that could have been a great breakthrough in the scientific community.
Notes from Saibra
Dr. Haber here mentions Shaco's warped view of the world - which is true - though what he fails to include is that he himself was responsible for much of this attitude. In fact, he reinforced it during his time as Shaco's "father".

The author of parts of this document, Dr. Fritz Haber, was killed by Shaco and his adventuring party shortly after they learned of what he had done to him. His lab was then incinerated, and now only ash remains of it.

Personal History

Early Life

Kids are not people.
— Shaco
Shaco was excreted from Shadar, the elemental plane of shadow, in the forests near the settlement of Tow. He was a part of the plane's collective consciousness, severed from it during his trip to the material plane. This separated him from his home plane, causing him to become an individual person. However, spawned into existence in a shifting adult form, Shaco still had much to learn about the world.

S.H.A.C.O. Patient

I think Shaco's blood is a bad thing to ingest.
Mimi Flowerpicker, upon the party finding two vats of Shaco's blood
Thankfully, Shaco did not have to exist on his own for long. He was found shortly after his spawning my myself, Dr. Fritz Haber. I took a particular interest in this specimen from Shadar, taking note of his shapeshifting abilities. I saw promise in this ability - and rightfully so. I spoke to him, and he agreed to return with me to my lab. There, I taught him about life on the material plane, and in return, he agreed to subject himself to testing. Unfortunately, he was convinced to leave before my studies concluded.

Disciple of Bylle

Shaco became an acolyte of Bylle either during or after his decision of leaving Haber's program - he has always been a bit unclear on the details. He found the small church, and quickly became one of its most prominent clergy members. The deity that they were worshipping was a trickster god, one who encouraged the behaviours that Dr. Haber had taught him.
Shaco does not speak much of his time between being in the S.H.A.C.O. project and joining the circus, so I am led to believe that this time was short.

Circus Clown

Soon after becoming a desciple of Bylle, Shaco left his temple with the intention of spreading the word of Bylle to more potential followers. This search led him to a circus - Beezos' Travelling Circus, led by Beezos Bumblebloom. There, he met Wrath Wildfire, whom he quickly became friends with. The two had a tendency for causing problems for Beezos, Shaco in particular - though he kept them around because they were crowd favourites. Shaco was handy for Beezos to have on hand when Wrath would set fire to the tents on accident, and was a useful healer to have on hands when acts would go awry - even if the reason for them doing so was Shaco himself.

Leaving with Wrath

Well, Wrath. Let's make like lovers and jump into the void.
— Shaco, talking to Wrath while in a hag-induced collective hallucination
Eventually, Wrath decided to leave the circus, and Shaco would end up following him. The two would travel together for some time, making money here and there through odd jobs and "pranks". The pair continued to cause chaos and havoc - Shaco's ideas of what a "harmless prank" is vastly differed from that of your average person. One such "prank" that the two would pull on passersby would be to set a lamp in the centre of a road and pretend to be a devil when travellers would interact with it. One such group that they pulled this prank on was headed into Astrakkhan, and was the adventuring party that Shaco and Wrath would soon join.

Adventuring

Shaco and Wrath, along with Mimi Flowerpicker, Kit Seaglade, Faebellis, and eventially Mel Cifarelli and later Amren, became a fairly well-known adventuring party; at least, as far as fame for adventurers goes. Shaco would continue to pull his pranks as before, though most of these were in service of the party's goals. Over the time that they spent together, the party learned more of Shaco's path - and learned more about how Haber had treated him.

Confronting Haber

The party decided that they would find and confront Haber, and Shaco led them to find him. He had given a speech on his recent discoveries in healing via the elemental planes, and so they knew he would be a challenge to fight. They were able to find Shaco's old "home", and from there, found where Haber's current lab was. They confronted him, and Shaco was torn. He still saw Haber as a father figure, though the party had drawn awareness to him that the way Haber had acted was not how most fathers would. Eventurally, the killing blow was dealt to Haber, who had fallen victim to his own experiments; he spent his final moments a writhing pile of black goo, not too dissimilar to the elemental plane of shadow itself - Shaco's origins.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Shaco is not the strongest, though he is not particularly weak either. He has a somewhat gaunt and vaguely emaciated appearance in his true form, though this is possibly by choice, and does not appear in most of his other forms unless by design.

Body Features

In his true form, Shaco's body has a somewhat rubbery and slightly shiny appearance, though does still feel like skin to the touch. His skin is quite malleable, and his cells are able to change entirely to create new and different forms for himself. He uses this ability often, putting on and taking off new forms as one may do with hats. Sometimes these appearances are with the intention of impersonating others, though just as often they are adopted solely because Shaco is bored of his current form.

Facial Features

Shaco's face is similar to the rest of his skin, though he has a tendency to ad strikingly pink rosy cheeks to his form - resembling those of a clown. His eyes have a jet black sclera, alongside a grey-white iris and pupil. His appearance in his true form is somewhat disturbing, and some have described it as off-putting. However, Shaco spends a lot of his time trying out different forms, with vastly different facial features.

Mental characteristics

Gender Identity

Shaco does not pay much attention to his gender at most times. He uses masculing pronouns and terms for the most part, but has been known to shapeshift into more feminine forms at times - usually for the sake of one of his pranks. He loosely follows the concept of gender categories, though he does not seem to care much for them.

Education

You got revived by a devil, I went to medical school!
— Shaco, upon Kit discussing her healing capabilities
Despite what he would tell most people, the majority of what Shaco learned was from Haber himself. He did not have any sort of formal education, nor did he go to any school dedicated to medicine - or, for that matter, any other discipline. Still, Shaco is not unintelligent, and was able to pick up on a lot of magic. He attributes most of his knowledge either to himself or fictional medical educations.

Mental Trauma

Shaco you have a lot of unaddressed problems. Maybe you should go see a therapist.
— Mimi Flowerpicker, upon learning of Shaco's past
Shaco's early experiences as a living experiment shaped him as a person - and Haber's influence did not help in making him well-adjusted to society. He had a very warped idea of what a family should look like due to this - though this was somewhat rectified when he did end up joining with his adventuring party.

Intellectual Characteristics

While Shaco is fairly intelligent, his true strengths lie in his awareness. He is highly capable of assessing a situation, discerning the meaning of other people's responses, and interacting with them accordingly. He is adept in communication with others, and would often willingly take the role of speaking on behalf of his adventuring party. His primary failing in this regard is himself - he is unaware largely of any personal failings, able to assess others but not himself.

Morality & Philosophy

Homie, that's not normal.
— Mimi Flowerpicker, adressing Shaco
Shaco has a rather light and unserious outlook on life, largely seeing everything as a joke. What Shaco thinks of as a "prank" encompasses far wider a scope than it reasonably should, and he enjoys pulling pranks on others. He does not seem to think much about how his pranks affect those he is pulling them on; or if he is, this only feeds his prank-pulling tendencies. While he has killed people for the sake of his pranks before, most of them have ended up revived.
Shaco's generally merry personality often contrasts with some of his actions, and can give him a mildly threatening appearance to others. He has a never-fading smile perpetually on his face, and his laugh can be off-putting to those not familiar with him. If he is aware of these discomforts, he does nothing to dissuade them.
I meant cannibalism. Don't resort to capitalism, even for me thats too far.

Contacts & Relationships

You know that classic saying - I can only trust you as long as I can juggle you. Which is a surprisingly long time.
— Shaco, discussing a potential ally with the party
Due to his line of work, Shaco has met a great many people - some of whom he is on good terms with, but a great many who he is not. His primary group of friends are those from his adventuring party - some of whom he got along well with, others not so much.

Adventuring Party

Wrath Wildfire

"You only have so many counterspells, Wrath."
"You only have so much health, Shaco."
"Yeah, well I can go invisible."
"Oh yeah? Well I can nuke you!"
"Well I can just not get hurt. For free."
— Wrath and Shaco "arguing"
Wrath Wildfire is one of Shaco's closest friends and confidantes. The two had known each other long before they met the party, and quickly became friends. Both are protective of one another, with each of them on high alert if the other looks to be in danger. However, they are also somewhat antagonistic of one another. They will have occasional arguments, though both parties understand these arguments to be low- to no-stakes and unserious. Their bickering can be compared to that of siblings. Their arguments have been known to annoy some of the other party members, however, if only for their inanity.

Kit Seaglade

A child for the army!
— Shaco
Shaco and Kit have a decently friendly relationship, though Kit is sometimes a bit concerned for Shaco's well-being. Shaco does not share this concern for his own well-being.

Mel Cifarelli

You're a dragon, arent you?
— Shaco confronting Mel
Mel and Shaco have somewhat of a rocky friendship, though they do remain friends. Shaco was the first to discover Mel's origins, though he holds some resentment towards her.

Mimi Flowerpicker

I think we should load Shaco into a catpult, personally.
— Mimi Flowerpicker
Mimi and Shaco did not get along well, with Mimi constantly telling Shaco about his own issues while being completely blind to her own. Shaco did, however, like to encourage Mimi's stupid decisions - if only for the fact that he found them to be funny. Still, there was not much bad blood held between them. At least, up until the point when Mimi betrayed the party and tried to kill Wrath in particular.

Other

Beezos Bumblebloom

I still have one of his playing cards. He'll never have his full set.
— Shaco, talking about Beezos
Despite Beezos' good relationship with Wrath, he and Shaco's was vastly different. Shaco always felt like Beezos had it out for him - and this belief was not entirely unfounded. However, to be fair to Beezos, Shaco was often a headache for him and the circus.

Bylle

Oh, come on, it's just a prank!
— Shaco, about to do something that is definitely not just a prank
Bylle was Shaco's first experience with the world outside of the experiment he grew up in, and he was not at all a good influence. Bylle saw Shaco's outlook on the world, and only encouraged these behaviours, enabling him and his pranks.
