Nakidos Prose in The Leitan Peninsula | World Anvil

Nakidos

As told to Suncrest Fieldrunner

Attend the tale of Nakidos, the moon story.

Back in time, long before the Ach, The Peninsula existed, but it was not as it was today. Back then it was know as Quclorum and it was nothing like the world we know today. It was still chaotic from the miasma. The Five walked Quclorum and as they touched it, the miasma calmed and formed mountains, lakes and rivers. Forests sprung up from where they slept and oceans and seas filled as they dreamt of water and wine. Unfortunately, the Quclorum was vast, and the five were but five. Yet they were happy.

But one of the Five, Oella, wanted more than the ground, and looked to the sky and wondered why it was empty. Someone (or better said - something) heard Oella and acted. It was Hu who acted and brought a triumvirate of moons to Quclorum to entertain Oella and soon Oella and Hu were happy, for the time being.

Soon The Peninsula was bathed in the soft glow of the three moons. Most of The Five, except for Oella, continued to walk the surface of Quclorum shaping and molding as they passed. Oella now knowing the ways of sky shaping, began to add stars, planets, comets, and meteors and was becoming more and more pleased with their work. The sky was Oella's domain and some of the other five became jealous of the distinction.

Lehas liked the medium sized moon and in an act of rebellion decried that it should become the source of life on what was to be The Peninsula. Lehas called it Achnak (commonly Liorba throughout the Peninsula) and it soon became a beacon of ethereal light in the night sky. Lehas attempted to touch and mold the landscape of Liorba, but failed and was admonished by Oella for ruining the moon with a rough and rugged landscape, though the ethereal light remained.

Pa watched and was saddened at Oella and Lehas' bickering and acted this time. Already a beacon of light in the night, Pa made the moon a catalyst of the dawn of life on Quclorum. The soft light of Liorba radiated across the void and bathed Quclorum with a gentle warmth, heralding the arrival of new beings, new life, and new beginnings. Legend has it that every time Liorba waxes to its fullest, a wave of new life blooms across The Peninsula. Creatures emerge from the depths and darkness, and plants burst forth, painting the landscape in vibrant hues, but Liorba's landscape would forever remain grim, harsh, and barren as a reminder of the ugliness of conflict.

As the orblight of Liorba went on creating life, it was realized that the life needed space to grow, mature, and evolve. So, Batmuk stepped in believing that since Batmuk was the best at shaping the rocks and the land, Batmuk would have no trouble shaping a small moon, even if it was the biggest of the three in the triumvirate. Unfortunately Batmuk failed here as well. The sky and the heavens were not for him. Tee, not wanting to be outdone by Pa, stepped in and gave the moon precedence over the land, the lakes, the hills, and the depths. So the large moon Kevdanak, or Gren'grendy as most call it, with its steady and luminous glow presided over the calming of the miasma on Quclorum and the formation of lands for the new life to grow in. Tee's intervention ushered in time of growth, exploration, and celebration. The inhabitants of Quclorum thrived, built civilizations, forged creations, and savored the simple joy of existence.

However, the moons orbited and soon Krinard, that's Todonak to us, cast its enigmatic shadow on Quclorum. She had been watching and waiting for she knew her time would come. A time of that inevitable journey toward the end. A time of passage from life to death. Krinard's mysterious, silver glow veiled the world in a somber stillness. Inhabitants of The Peninsula began reflecting on the transient nature of life and mourning those who had started departing.

Hu saw what his creation of the triumvirate moons had begat. The good; the bad; and the necessary. It was then that Hu acted again to have The Peninsula not end in darkness. Hu acted again and transformed Krinard. Yes it was a harbinger of death, but Hu made it also hold the promise of rebirth. This was done by greatly speeding up the period of orbit for the moon. It soon became a constant reminder if life-death-life and so on.

With the transformation of Quclorum into what we today call The Leitan Peninsula, Hu, Tee, and Pa decided the time had come to sit back and relax. The three agreed with each other to no longer intervene on what is to become The Peninsula and watch. In doing so they each retired to a moon and have not been seen in The Peninsula since.
Pa retired to Liorba; Tee retired to Gren'grendy; and Hu retired to Krinard.
Generations have come and gone, and the Triumvirate Moons continue their eternal dance across The Peninsula's sky. The people of Leitan learned to embrace the cyclical nature of their existence, finding solace in the perpetual rhythm of birth, life, and death. The Triumvirate Moons serve as a constant reminder that, in the grand tapestry of the universe, each stage of existence plays a vital role in the cosmic symphony of life.
