Keid 1-b
Keid 1-b, normally just referred to by the star's name, Keid, is about 20% larger than Earth. Keid 1-b is a very dry world due to the binary stars. At times, during its orbit, there is full darkness at night as the planet goes between the two stars. The second star illuminates the night sky at 40% of normal daylight. When both stars rise at the same time, it can be quite hot and bright on the surface.
Due to the size, and dense core, and metals within the planet, the gravity on Keid 1-b is almost 15% more than earth normal.
Attempts to terraform the planet so far have not been very successful, with only a 5% improvement in habitability. However, the cities, 4 in each of the north and south hemispheres thrive. Each city has between 1.3 and 2.1 million people in them.
Geography
The binary stars make the planet very hot. Near the equator, and 50 degrees latitude in both the northern and southern hemispheres is all rocky and dusty desert.
Starting around the 50th parallel, the land gets more temperate. There's much more liquid water this far north, and it's where vegetation begins. All the major settlements are in these regions.
Fauna & Flora
Around the 70th degree latitude dense jungles begin. Many of the plants have yet to be cataloged, however a few show signs of being useful as medicines.
Natural Resources
Keid 1-b is rich in many metals, including many large deposits of
- Gold
- Silver
- Nickel
- Iron
History
Founded as a mining settlement 150 years ago. It was dubbed the new gold rush as people flocked there. The binary stars provided lots of light for energy and the settlement grew very rapidly.
Tourism
The only real tourist attraction is the Serenity Spa in desert. There is a hot-spring with water rich in minerals that people come from all over the planet to visit. The fame of the spa is enough to have been heard of on other settlements. Though not many people make such a long trip to visit the spa.
