Eventide Veil

The Reflection of Shadow

The Reflection of Shadow, true to its namesake is a realm reflecting aspects of shadow. To many, this may put both its mirror realms in an evil light. Not so, as the shadow is merely a natural aspect of the world. The inhabitants of this reflection may embody shadow, but depending upon which mirror they are from, they may either be friendly, indifferent, or hostile to travelers.   It is an ever-changing realm that exists beyond reality, but also overlaps with it, much like the Reflection of Fey, There is no sunlight, and both mirrors experience a persistent night.   Like the Reflection of Fey, The Reflection of Shadow represents a possible world had the circumstances been different, either through lawful or chaotic circumstances. The Reflection of Shadow depicts a world without the interference of civilization and light, suffused with dark Magic both benevolent and malevolent in nature.

The Eventide Veil

The origins of the Eventide Veil find themselves at the formation of the world, but that is the extent of most scholar's knowledge. The Veil is a realm of eternal cosmic night, twilight groves, and lawful influence. Here, death is not something to be afraid of. Rather, it's the beginning of new life--a time for reincarnation. Here, the benevolent dead take the form of will-o-wisps, forgetting their previous lives and floating through the air, seeking the presence of new bodies to inhabit as newborn souls.   Many shamans, druids of the night, or Celestial Dragon faithfuls wish for their deceased loved ones to pass through the Eventide Veil. A common practice for some is to adorn the dead with magical beads of light before cremation. It's believed that the lights will guide them through the starlight skies of the veil into a new body.   The landscape of the Eventide Veil is similar to the Spirit Grove but takes on the aspects of eternal night. Its lush, bio-luminescent forests sprawl throughout the landscape. Great planes of dusk-colored petals called Duskvein bend in the silent and gentle breeze, and pools of starlit water lay still and perfect amidst the beauty. The night sky never wanes or gives way to the sun, and points of light are indistinguishable between stars or will-o-wisps.   The winds are cool, but not uncomfortably so, and the air is filled with scintillating points of stardust that hang like hovering glow-bugs.   The creatures of this realm are stranger still, yet are not outwardly hostile. Humanoid creatures of purple-ebon skin infused with stars act as guides, able to move between shadows with ease. Great owls with wingspans of a hundred feet glide silently through the sky, fey-like canine creatures stalk in the shadows of others without having physical form themselves. One's own shadow might even have a mind of its own.   In the center of the endless forest is a magnificent grove, shrouded by a willow tree at least five hundred feet tall with leaves of bright, glowing night, and surrounded by a meadow of bluish-purple grass. The great willow's roots extend endlessly throughout the Veil, granting life to the forest in its entirety.
