Hiddranite Republic
When the Iron Empire fell to civil strife and foreign invasion, most of its border garrisons abandoned their posts to protect their families, or become mercenaries or brigands. Most did so. The ancestors of the Hiddranites, however, held their ground against attacking Vosch and Ulwyddisc alike, maintaining loyalty to an Empire that no longer existed. When they stopped receiving orders from the Emperor, they elected leaders from among themselves, creating a stratocratic republic modelled loosely after the Turantian cities. Now, the Hiddranites still inhabit the land their forebears defended, maintaining its crumbling walls in a symbolic vigil. They have long since adopted new customs, including the Harsuist faith, but their identity is still that of an army awaiting orders from their lawful captain.
