Azzartian Empire

The Azzartian Empire was a theocratic monarchy that dominated the known world for several centuries following the collapse of the world of bronze. The Azzartians are said to have come down from the mountains with their mighty bows and iron spearheads, and driven before them the monsters that destroyed the Cities of Bronze. In the wake of the beasts' flight, the Azzartians conquered all they came across, eventually conquering almost the entire known world.
The ancient Azzartians were supposedly quested by the god Oulos, creator of the spiritual world, to end the worship of matter, and thus Veztoz, throughout the world. This, along with the slaughter of all wizards would strike a crippling blow to the dark god Veztoz, and save humanity from the mysterious crisis that plagued the world of bronze. These precepts were supposed to have been prophesied by Auneir, an Azzartian mystic, a year and a day before the crisis began.
For several generations after its founding, the Azzartian Iron Empire slew wizards wherever they were found, and executed anyone worshipping pagan gods, destroying their places of worship. Over time, however, their stance softened, and most Emperors ignored their alleged divine quest, allowing pagan worship and wizardry to continue in provinces outside of the Azzart Mountains themselves.
Eventually, the Iron Empire began to collapse from internal strife and outside invasion, possibly brought about by changing environmental conditions in the barbaric lands surrounding the Empire. Amruk-Mur, the Empire's capital, fell to a band of rogue Sabouin mercenaries in the 953rd year of the Empire, marking its demise.
