Royal Accession

Like many mortal species, Humans achieve their own form of immortality through family dynasties and inheritance. Many of the noble families in Old Astoria date back to the early days Early-humans, and can trace a generational tree that expands back millennia.   This form of familial immortality is sacred to human nobles, and care is taken whenever any of the immortal races are taking actions that may interfere with things like ancestral honor and succession. This is all the more true for the highest echelon of human society in the The Thirteen Kingdoms, as the kingdoms near unanimously rely on the hereditary rule within a single noble family to determine who the supreme authority and leader of their nation is - and even more importantly - will be.   But alas, even kings are mortal. When the times come for them to pass their heir takes over the responsibility of not just leading the family dynasty, but also leading one of the most powerful people in Altwaus. The transfer of power from regent to heir is filled with tradition and posh circumstances - each unique to the century and culture the king belonged to. Generally speaking, whenever a reigning monarch passes their crown to their heir at the time of their death, this transfer of power is referred to as a "Royal Accession", and it is the single most important custom in all of The Thirteen Kingdoms.   In incidents where this transfer of power is delayed or intetuppted, cival war has occur more often than not, which the most blood example being the The Inheritance War - which first sparked from the friction of the Royal Accession after the death of Dimitri I, King of Kaldaria.
