The Inheritance War

The formal name for the civil war that begun in Kaldaria, before eventually turning into an outright rebellion against the Alvain.

Historical Significance

Legacy

Regarded as the bloodiest war in the history of Alwaus, it forever changed the culture of the Alvain and their relationship with other species. Centuries after the war ended, humanity is still regarded as an arrogant and violent race of war mongers, especially by lesser species that were adversely effected by the The Inheritance War despite not having direct stakes in the war themselves.    Open warfare itself also changed, both culturally and technologically. Romanticism of war and conflict was significantly reduced in Human and Alvain culture, as the true horrors of modern warfare remain etched into the psyche of both species. it is little surprise then that the Alvain so readily gave control of Alvantes to The Empress of Alwaus in order to gain a sense of safety and order after the death of so many immortals.    For the Auroch however, the war was their proving ground, and served as their introduction to the world stage as honorable warriors and fearless defenders of the empire. The end of the war saw their recognition as a major species, with all the prominence and legal authority that brought them in the new empire.

Technological Advancement

The war saw the development of a multitude of new military technologies, as well as the refinement of various existing technologies and military tactics. Ironclad deployment increased tenfold during the war and has never been reduced to pre-war levels and the revelation of the military applications of Kinderstärke zepplin technology was demonstrated in the destruction of Rystanburg Castle.   Perhaps the largest technological breakthrough was the wide spread usage of mass production, particularly with firearms. The use of the weapons became increasingly imporant in the latter years of the war, where the need for new soldiers far outstretched the ability both sides has to train newcomers to war.
