Alwaus, The Known World

The Known World

A large, magic infused pangaea that spans over the majority of the globe, the super continent of Alwaus is home to a diverse plethera of intelligent life, fauna, and flora. Stretching from the wild, untamed plains of Sytis to the lush and nearly impenetrable forests of the Crescite Mountain Range, few among even the immortal Alvain have set foot across all four corners of the continent.

Pocketed by a plethera of citys, towns, and enclaves to world is cradle to a variety of life, both ancient and new. While dominanted and controlled by the immortal Alvain, settlements of Kinderstarke, Humans, Aurochs, Farrow, and Goblyns are not uncommon.

Geography

The continent is centered along the planets center axis, and temperate plains with rolling hills are common across most central areas of the continent. The southwest portion keeps the same general altitude of the temperate zones, however the sharp mountains in Kinderstarke catch most of the rainfall, which has resulted the planet's largest desert and plains.

To the east temperatures cool down noticeably, with summers being shorter and winters staying long past the point of welcome. Forests here grow faster and thicker then elsewhere in the world, likely due to the significant rainfall the easternmost portion of the continent receives.

The northern most edge of the continent is cooler across both the west and the east, with sailing vessels attempting to cross the continent in the north often forced to shore by the cold wind storms and sudden ice.

While not technically part of the continent, a chain of tropical islands is scattered to the far south east. While travel to and from these islands is risky in the relentless storms that threaten the deepest ocean, the white sand beaches and warm waters are a haven to many.

Fauna & Flora

Because of the wide diversity in environments and climates, it is difficult to catalog the flora and fauna of Alwaus in a single place. The abundant grasslands or the Western Protectorate are speckled with smaller patches of deciduous trees and game animals, while the hard unforgiving hills in Sytis and entwined with towering evergreen trees and vicious wolves who's remoteness means that have never learned to fear a sword or spear.

Natural Resources

The fertile soil of the more moderate climates provides a consistent bounty of food and luxury crops. While the human's rapid expansion across the continent has certainly pushed many forests back into the deeper corners of the world, recent regulations put in place by The Empire have ensured potential human development doesn't further damage the world's rather abundant resources.

Deep in the mountains of the Kinderstarke lands, the stout people continue to filter through the world's crust for a bounty of natural resources. With the larger silver deposits now tapped by The Eternal Empire for their new currency system, new tunnels have been started in areas once mined by humans - and Kinderstarke prospectors are already finding a rich abundance of workable metals and precious gemstones.   Pushed from the ancient mine shafts of their ancestors, human mining operations have been forced to redirect to other methods of profit, most notably with the gathering of the fine dusts that circulate on the more shallow layers of the planet's crust. While innocent in their natural form, they can be combined together by a skilled alchemist to produce Blackpowder, an every popular commodity used for a variety of purposes in the new Empire.   It was said that The Goddess sung Alwaus into existence with her very voice, and in this song the first seeds of magic were introduced to the world. While most ration citizens of The Empire have long put aside such nonsense, the magical nature of the continent cannot be denied. Above all else it the magic that flows the earth, air, and water of the continent that empowers life on the continent. It is central to any civilization's growth and none wield it's addictive power more tightly than the Alvain.

I like the fact that magic and life are bond. If we think, isn't life a kind of magic, considering the universe's tendency to chaos? It gives me some ideas... Plus, your map is very beautiful.
