New Moon Day

Alwaus has two primarily celestial bodies in its orbit known as The Twin Moons of Alwaus. While the larger "Luna Major" remains locked to  The Continent of Alwaus, the smaller "Luna Minor" orbits the planet and shift through a pattern of "moon phases" once every ten days. This ten day lunar cycle is the basis of the The Eternal Empire's Tenday Week, as each time Luna Minor completes a phase a new week begins - with every ten phases in turn measuring each of the four seasons.    The most important phase of the ten-day cycle is on the 5th day when the moon is full, and on the tenth day when the moon becomes "new" once again. While both days carry significant cultural importance in most cultures is Alwaus, the 10th day or "New Moon Day" is widely celebrated as the "week's end" and is taken as a day of rest, fellowship, and relaxation across most cultures.    The exact celebratory practices differ greatly across cultures and species, however the day is often taken as a chance to put down the projects and responsibilities that consumes life in Alwaus and instead spend time catching up with friends and family or pursuing recreation and hobbies. Naturally not all people are able to drop their responsibilities for an entire day, or some simply choose not to in an attempt to capitalize on the silver  to be earned offer goods and services to those looking to relax and connect with others. As such is it common for pubs, bars, and cafes to remain open to offer services on what is usually their busiest day.    Naturally recreation and free-time offered by the promise of a week's end are a privilege that not all can enjoy. Essential services cannot simply throw their responsibilities to the side for a day, nor can military and policing efforts - especially in times of heightened risk or even war. In most cases those burdened with that responsibility were aware of the sacrifice they would be making for taking up this professions and most are suitability compensated for it.
