Lycean ("Lie-Kin")

A mysterious, almost mythical race of psuedo-humans from the wildest corners of Alwaus, the Lycean may look like humans, but can transform into terrfying wolf-like creatures capable of besting an Alvain in single-combat.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The species exists in two separate forms: a "humanoid" form that is nearly indistinguishable from humans and animalistic "canine" form. The time spent in one form or another varies greatly with different tribes and individuals. Most prefer to change forms depending on the needs of the situation. The human form provides a fine level of motor skills, permitting the lycean a better level of manual coordination and articulation. This make many social activities and communication far easier.
The "beast" form dramatically increases the lycean's size and weight, and covers their body with a thick coat of fur as their very bone structure shifts and changes to create a enlongaged face with a muzzle of sharp teeth. This beast form is strong, faster, and more durable; and the lycean's hearing and sense of smell are heightened considerably.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Lycean are omnivores with a strong preference for meat. They have little need for culinary practices as most food is foraged or hunted and consumed shortly afterwards. Meat is sometimes cooked (especially if it has been sitting for a day or two) but if preferred raw, bloody, and preferably still warm from the heat of the body it was torn from.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Restricted almost entirely to the wilderness of The Southern Wildlands, Southwild Lycean have been known to roam past The Kaldross Mountain Range, both in packs and as individuals. Most notably was the lycean's involvment in The Inheritance War, where they allegedly served as bodyguards to The Traitor King, Marcius Lesnar.

Average Intelligence

A level of intelligence similar to that of common humans, the species' nomadic and tribalistic nature (not to mention their distain for all forms institution) means most lycean are simply not exposed to complex fields like Arcana and Operating. The species' aptitude in the field of Alchemy does show a clear level of applied intelligence that suggests the potential of species if exposed to proper educational facilities.
