Operating Enchantment

The Language of The Natural World at Your Very Fingertips

Operating refers the methodical work of layering series after series of powerful enchantments on places and things to create powerful magical effects that are often self-sustaining. The newest school is unique in that it can be controlled and manipulated (but not created) by those without an innate spellcasting ability. While not technically a true Magical Discipline, Operating Enchantments are still powerful expressions of magical intent created by those who understand and can control (at least to some degree) the natural world through the use of complicated spellcraft.

Capable of transferring acanite power through an entire urban center, connecting a large network of sending stones, managing the defenses of a military watchtower, to even managing the Silverline Sails on industrial and military sea vessels, Operating Enchantments have quickly taken the world of Alwaus by storm and now offer the utilitarian accessibility of "magic" to millions of people who would have otherwise never benefited from the arcane arts. Linked explicitly to Arcana, Operating has become the vanguard benefit that the The Collegiate Arcane provides to the empire at large, and has seen the Collegiate's influence grow in the empire's early years to at long last eclipse that of The Pantheon Of The Goddess.

While there will always be those who look down at Arcane Network Operators as not "real arcanists" the benefits operators bring and the demand for their talents has never been greater. With the rapid evolution and expansion of field of Operating Enchantment growing year after year, there has been growing murmurs of concern from among the traditional Arcanists, who worry the young field's trajectory may soon eclipse that of more traditional magical disciplines - a change in power dynamic that would surely forever change the world of Alwaus' relationship with magic. 

Examples of Operating Enchantments in Effect

"Enchanting" a Magical Item or Piece of Gear - A sword that glows in the dark, a bow that creates magical arrows each time it is drawn back, and steel plate armor that weighs a tenth of it's normal weight are all examples of Operating Enchantments creating powerful (and potentially unstable) magical items. 


Programming and Instructing Ironclads - The powerful Ironclads first seen in The 1st Immortal War were the first time Operating Enchantments were used for violence against other beings - and their reputation for tools of war puts military Operators in high demand. 


Breaching @operating Enchantment Networks - Breaching a Enchanted Network with the user of an Arcane Anchor and a Cursebreaker is an example of an Offensive Operating using their opponent's own Operating Network against them.
