Carved Wood Animals Item in The Hylian Fantasy | World Anvil

Carved Wood Animals

Tanre carefully stacked the last animal, an intricate crane his father had given him, by balancing its spindly legs across the backs of a bear and a buffalo. His hand raised slowly, his breath tightly held in his chest. Pride began to break over his face, when the shadow moved over him.   crrAAASH!   The wooden animals spilled across the floor, the tip of the cranes beak digging deep into a softened spot of wood burl. Aril smiled sheepishly at her older brother.   "Whatcha doin'?"
A common toy among both Hylian and Gerudo people, these wood carved statues of various animals come in various sizes, multiple regional designs, and can be painted or left natural. No matter what, they tend to provide years of play for children and also help with recognition of domesticated, wild, and dangerous animals.

Oh no! None of Tanre's pets got damaged, did they? did they?   Do children primarily have carved wood animals or do they also have other kind of toys? Do they have wooden dolls? Who usually makes a carved wood animal: a family member, a toymaker? Do children learn how to make their own?   In real life, some common toys have an artistic, luxury equivalent - typically, the toys of a hereditary ruler may include some of those. Does that happen in your world? Did one artist, independantly of any commission, make ones?   Also, are Tanre's pets safe????

The crane may be lost. Maybe.   Something like Tanre's are probably a more luxurious type, ade by an artisanal hand.   Commoners usually make there own from scraps of wood while sitting a round a fire, much like would be done in modern whittling.
