The Caretakers of the Orphanage

Nestled on the edge of a dense, sprawling forest and on the same grounds as The Manor, The Orphanage shelters young adventurers who find themselves without family or guardians in The Guild of Misfits & Majesty. And, in order to train them to the life of adventurer, the Guild created the Caretakers of the Orphanage, where adult adventurers can devote some of their free time to teach skills to the children, both physical and mental. Despite the simplicity of its purpose, the Orphanage works well enough for the children to be happy and safe.

The Orphanage's Inner Workings

The organization of the is not well defined. But there are a few roles that exist:

  • Matron

The role of Matron is an equivalent to the role of director of The Orphanage. The Matron oversees the entire orphanage, ensuring that each child is given care and safety. Hope is the person currently taking care of the place, due to her connection with the Goddess Sune.

  • Treasurer

Patron Cha-Ching has taken the role of Treasurer for the Orphanage after an incident that happened with her own adventurers. As part of her punishment, she takes care of the accounting for the Orphanage.

  • Secretary

As to help the Matrons with admnistrative work and to secure the entry of the Orphanage, Quill is taking the role of secretary. She keeps the documents about the children and the caretakers in order and organizes precisely. If anyone suspicious enters the Orphanage, she makes sure to ring the bell and let everyone know.
  • Vice-Matron

The Vice-Matron takes acts as an advisor the Matron. They take charge when the Matron is away or unavailable, and they take care of the day-to-day business. The Vice-Matron is a second in command basically. Currently, this role is taken by Shiki.

  • Caretakers

Different adventurers from the Guild decided to give their time to educate the children. As such, they do not reside in the Guild but the Orphanage in itself instead. They are both making sure the children are safe and they are taking time to teach them knowledge that will be helpful when they go adventuring themselves.

  • Chef

In order to make the children comfortable, Kog is making sure they are eating well and cooks for the Orphanage in its entirity. He also tries to follow the eating preferences of the children.

Children:

As a reminder, this is the list of the children currently residing in The Orphanage:
  • Amelinh
  • Annie
  • Billie
  • Leila
  • Valerie
  • Nadette
Note: Even though the children are currently all girls, the Orphanage is not restricted to acquire boys in their grounds. It is just... odd circumstances.

History

Since children were getting stranded in The Guild of Misfits & Majesty, some adventurers were getting worried about them walking around the Guild and meeting people they should not meet. After multiple requests, Founder Pax decided to create The Orphanage and picked his adventurer Hope to be the Matron.   With time, Hope decided to involve more adventurers in the structure. Shiki became her right hand woman, and any adventurer willing to give their time and who had a bit of experience with children, was allowed to volunteer as a Caretaker. Each person brings something to the table, especially when it comes to the children education.

Education

The education system operates in an informal manner. Upon arrival, children are automatically enrolled in the Orphanage, and therefore enrolled in the system which is driven by a diverse group of adventurers who serve as part-time Caretakers. These adventurers bring their own skills and experiences to the table.   Below is an example of lessons the children are receiving along with the different adventurers associated with it.
General classes
General knowledge is basic in order to be trained as an adventurer. As such, Vittorino Mezzanote was the first Caretaker willing to provide this type of lesson, quickly followed by Aharon. The class provides knowledge on history, religions and sometimes survival skills to have.
Magic theories
Since most of the children are spellcasters, it was fairly obvious that classes on the Art needed to be provided. Soporific and Elif are the main Caretakers dealing with it.
Combat training
Learning to fight is a must when becoming an adventurer. Elijah Greyson, Louis and Allan are the teachers for it.
Other courses
On the side, Comtess teaches cooking and art courses, and when Shiki has time, she shows gardening. Those times act as recreational times for the children.
The students then follow classes according to their levels in specific fields. It is prefered to have them together to prevent rivalries. However, given the varying skill levels and backgrounds, some need higher level courses and they are taken on one-on-one with a specific instructor. Both Quill and the Caretakers must constantly adapt to accommodate the different needs of each child, which makes it quite difficult to handle properly.   Although the children gain valuable knowledge and skills, there is no formal diploma or certification at the end of their education. The Orphanage is not considered as a school or any kind of academic structure.

Connections

The child Leila has made some contacts with Gerwin Reuter, a rich nobleman who grew close to the little girl. He likes to make sure she is alright, and does not mind giving a bit of his money to help the Caretakers.

Being an orphan himself, Asriel has taken residency in The Orphanage and takes care of the sanity of the children as well as the Caretakers. He gives some therapy for those who require it.
