The Robco Liberation Army Organization in The Great Dust Bowl | World Anvil

The Robco Liberation Army

Started by a group of rather misguided programmers, they mistook artificial intelligence as sentience and began a dangerous mission to ‘liberate them from their bondage’. Beginning with local service Protectrons, they caused a series of catastrophes when several of these units mowed down the humans in their immediate vicinity. Unperturbed, they began plotting a way to gain real influence and power in a single operation.

Discovering a pre-war Robco facility, they once again ‘cleansed the programming of human interference’ from the units left inside and started building an army. Though considered to have ‘free will’, the overwhelming majority of liberated machines conveniently decided to pledge themselves to the cause. Beginning a reign of terror across the local settlements, the Robco Liberation Army set out to make organic and artificial intelligences equal through any means necessary.

Though no real form of central leadership exists, there is one who serves as the poster child for the organization. Claiming to be an android from the Commonwealth she has brought with her technical know-how that makes her origin hard to dispute no matter how ridiculous it sounds. What was once a small terrorist cell became a real threat to the Great Dust Bowl overnight, with the old factory once again rumbling to life to begin producing a new generation of warrior. Tensions rise with local settlements as the sightings continue of towering machines mounted with weapons patrolling the area.

Mission Statement

Their main objective is to reprogram robots into 'choosing' who to serve. While most grunts believe in this cause, the leaders behind the scenes know better. Robots captured are given code that will ensure they end up helping the RLA, therefore defeating the purpose of actual free will.

Destabilizing settlements that rely heavily on robotic support such as the Vault Crawler is considered the ultimate legacy to leave behind. So far those that have tried to get into the closed system have been caught and publicly executed, but there are always a few more brave souls willing to take another stab at it. 'Liberating' the Unstoppables would give any one of these unwashed anarchists bragging rights for the rest of their lives.

Finding records or holotapes with pre-war code or information on operating systems drives many of their scavengers into dangerous situations. Those that can write programs themselves on the other hand rarely leave the factory, as the time it takes to physically do this is staggering.

A foreigner to the Great Dust Bowl, Killian Addison has none the less learned to thrive in the harsh environment. She turned a group of dangerously deluded programmers into a full fledged terrorist cell that challenges any society they come across. There is little room for negotiations and it is typical to earn the penalty of death for simply being in the path of this organization. Given a nickname from a comic book character her new subordinates worshipped, she embarced the identity to placate them. Adding some stylistic choices to her modified suit of T-51b power armor, Killian found adopting the famous likeness aligned well with her goals. She now leads the Robco Liberation as her own version of the Mechanist, her sights set on the Vault Crawler and a way to defeat the Unstoppables aboard, much to the secret glee of her followers.
