City of Festivals

This is Montreal as known and lived by the Kindred.

Written by MateusDS

This city is older than the country it resides in. Older still are some of it's residents.   When the sun goes down, those residents awake and come out to play...or to party. They have done so in the City of Festivals for centuries and will continue to do so until the money runs dry, the party stops or there isn't one of them left to enjoy the nights of Montreal.

Demographics

The kindred of Montreal are divided by two groupings: Clan & Covenant. Being known as the City of Festivals, it should come as no surprise that the Daeva are the most populous clan, being 26 in total. The Ventrue keep things in check as 23 of the them live in the Greater Montreal Metropolitan Area. Keeping everyone honest and on their toes are the 15 Mehket and keeping things interesting and exciting are the 8 Gangrel and 3 Nosferatu.   Concerning the clans, Montreal was a city of the First and Second Estate for over 400 years. But recent changes have allowed Kindred to express their Requiems in different ways. Although these numbers are not exact every night the Invictus count close to 20 members , The Carthians count 15, The Lancea et Sanctum count roughly 10 & The Circle of the Crone count 15. The Ordo Dracul count the least members of the Covenants being usually around 5 or 6 Dragons, but they also have little interest in the politics above ground and so tend to keep their numbers low. Montreal also counts around 5 or 6 Unaligned Vampires who can be swayed during the Dance Macabre or chose to die alone.

Government

The Invictus  rule the night here. They are currently led by Prince Raymond Boisclair  who is holding onto his realm by a thread. Although everyone acknowledges his reign, many including the Prince  himself are wondering if the next threat will come from the Carthians, the Circle of the Crone, the Lancea et Sanctum or even within the Invictus  itself.   In typical Invictus  fashion, Montreal is still very much about control. Who has it? Who can wield it? Who wants it? This style of government has allowed the Kindred of the City of Festivals to keep things quiet and live out their Requiems without the fear of hunters or worse barging into their havens and dragging them out into the sun.

Industry & Trade

Sales & Service rule the economy of the city, but only on the foundation of it's industrial sector. Most Kindred therefore have their hands in some business venture, probably offering of all kinds at a fair price with no questions asked. Others have invested and worked their investments into the Saputo's and Molson's of the modern day; Financial empires that will not be blown away anytime soon. Everyone has to eat and everyone wants to drink after all.

Infrastructure

Of interest to the Kindred is the port, the financial sector, Downtown and its limitless entertainment, the creativity and bourgeoisie of Le Plateau, the growing housing and condominium projects as well as Montreal's diverse industrial sector which focuses on Pharmaceuticals, Chemicals, Food & Beverage plants.

Assets

For starters there are the over 4.2 million people that claim Montreal as home and that allow the Kindred to go about their business undetected. All of that blood certainly allows for many kindred to be satisfied on a nightly basis. Being a port city and a major air port in Canada, allows for many transients and tourists to be fed upon and manipulated by the Vampires of the city. Known as Canada's most liberal minded city has helped the City of Festivals become what it is today and is another asset to those who rule it by night. If you are looking for a good time, Montreal's Kindred know what direction to point you in.

Guilds and Factions

As mentioned before, the kindred of the city are divided into 6 groups:
  • The Invictus ; The First Estate; Those who wield power as a currency and transact on the lives, hopes and dreams of those around them.
  • The Lancea et Sanctum; The Second Estate; Those who see their curse as a gift from God and who consider it their sacred duty to keep the sheep on the narrow path.
  • The Carthians; Those who believe that power and wealth should be shared. Each Kindred has a voice and a vote.
  • The Circle of the Crone; Those who believe in the godly status of Kindred and who want to let the blood flow.
  • The Ordo Dracul; Those who seek to transcend the curse and become something more.
  • The Unaligned; Those who have chosen the lonely path, who have been rejected by the Covenants or who are still babes in the All Night Society.

Tourism

Many Americans, Ontarians, Europeans and Asians visit the City of Festivals. A nearly 500 year old city has its fair share of relics, tourist traps and historical sites including hundreds of churches from a not so bygone era of Catholicism. The unique cultural mosaic also attracts those who live nearby and can't experience so much in there own towns and cities. Once the sun goes down, only Las Vegas rivals Montreal in its debauchery and entertainment.

Architecture

The city is a beautiful mix of Gothic, Rococo and Baroque architecture now laced by the Modern styling of the 20th and 21st Centuries. The old styles are mostly condensed in Old Montreal(also known as the Old Port) where cobblestone streets still guide tourists and locals alike from attraction to attraction.
