The Skoldarm Alliance
Ruling over more than eighty systems on the Inner and Mid Rim sectors, mainly along the Appian Way, House Zenda formed the Skoldarm Alliance to protect their interests and those of their close allies at the start of the last galactic civil war, which came at the beginning of the Second Dark Age. By the time the war was over, almost eighty systems had petitioned to join House Zenda in their alliance. Ever since, a Zenda scion has administered to the Skoldarm Alliance from their throne world on Kalevala, a world shrouded in winter.
While the Skoldarm Alliance is not as large or populous as other imperial provinces, many of the systems within it possess planetary bodies rich in rare minerals; thus, the Skoldarm Alliance exerts its influence through commerce and trade. This has a drawback; Alliance worlds often attract criminal elements that prey upon colonies and freighter starships, seeking to steal the rare and precious minerals and ores. Alliance navy ships are fast and sturdy, and always carry a full compliment of marines well-trained in zero-G combat and boarding actions. Many a space pirate, looking for a quick and easy score, has learned the hard way that Alliance ships are not easy prey.
