The Bindings of Ithaeus

There are no known documents dating from the time after The Crossing that directly reference Ithaeus, but his legends are told far and wide throughout the Coastal Realms. It is not uncommon to find a bard in a tavern earning their drink with a tale of Ithaeus.   Ithaeus was a Wizard, one of the few who survived the Crossing to reach the Bright Lands. He was enamored with the promise and hope of these lands, and set out to explore them.   His first tale involves him meeting the Elven leader Chialnahei. Ithaeus was intrigued by Chialnahei's wisdom, and decided to put it to a test. He brought two offerings for Chialnahei to choose between. One was a lamb's stomach filled with rare medicinal herbs. The other was a long bone from one of the monstrosities from The Plague Sea gilded in intricate silver and gold scrollwork. Chialnahei chose the gilded bone as his gift. Ithaeus laughed and explained that the wise elf had chossen evil wrapped in beauty over the beneficial contained in uglyness. Enraged, Chialnahei drove Ithaeus from his court and out of the Elfwood. Some tales will claim this as the cause of the first Elven war.   His second tale involves Ithaeus traveling north to meet the King of the Orcs within his ice palace. This is a bawdy tale where the orc king and his servants continually belittle and defame Ithaeus until, in his rage, he melts the palace and drowns the king and all his servants.   In his third tale, Ithaeus is still mad at the orcs so he goes south to torment their cousins, the Goblins. He goes into the swamp of the Miasma and begins setting fire to the huts of the goblins. The goblins, having never seen fire before, begin to thank him profusely for his great gift to their kind. His rage dampened by shame, he departs the swamps vowing never to return.   There are several more tales of his adventures.   The final tale of Ithaeus, widely believed to be a flight of fancy, involves his travel to Dwarven lands under the Dwarven Mountains. This tale tells of the dwarves binding Ithaeus to their forge, and using his Magicks to forge masterful weapons that are kept in massive vaults beneath the mountains by the greedy dwarven Thane Lords.
