Session 008 - The Hag of Downfall
General Summary
Charm queried Kiara about a damaged pincushion resembling Endelyn Moongrave. Kiara tried to divert Charm's attention, but failed. Meanwhile, Lilygrove examined the corridor's artwork, with Tarin accompanying her. Once their chat with Kiara concluded, Charm and Bavlorna exited. Turning invisible, Lilygrove began to topple paintings. Talia, following behind, diligently restored them. Lilygrove then encountered a painting that wouldn't budge, and its unexpected weight broke her finger. This painting was later identified as a mirror. Lilygrove whimsically altered her reflection, a secret to which only Wirth was privy. Gahr's efforts to move the mirror with a crowbar were in vain. Concurrently, Kiara discovered a tidy room adorned with shadow boxes, most containing mummified pixies. One, however, was conspicuously empty.
Tarin, reflecting a smile at the mirror, triggered a hidden passageway. Venturing into the L-shaped corridor, the group felt an unusual sensation. Lilygrove, upon reaching the corridor's end, stumbled upon a diminutive door. Gahr, retracing their steps, discerned he had shrunk. Lily's attempt to use the door's needle backfired, injuring Wirth. It soon dawned on the group that they had all shrunk. They navigated through the door, emerging beneath a cabinet. All, save for Gahr, evaded the cabinet before reverting to their original sizes. Gahr was trapped, necessitating a group effort to extricate him.
Bavlorna's return was marked by palpable distress. Lilygrove's consoling gesture resulted in an unexpected ingestion. After extensive dialogue, Bavlorna returned both Lilygrove and an iron key. The group then fulfilled Bavlorna's requests, prompting her departure. Gahr, using the iron key, accessed a moss-covered wooden cupboard, procuring a potion of diminution, a potion of growth, and a potion of invisibility. Simultaneously, a reanimated stuffed cat made its escape. Talia's lure, a spool of silver yarn, proved ineffective. A dispute arose between Tarin and Kiara regarding Charm's intentions with Kiara. Seeking solitude, Lilygrove discovered an aviary filled with pedestals and draped objects.
Lilygrove's attempt to quell the noise with a sleep spell inadvertently affected Gahr. After awakening him, Tarin unveiled the bird cages. Lilygrove proceeded to release most of the birds, but Gahr intervened, sending a bird with a message. Their exploration led them to a distillery, where an inadvertent mishap caused an explosion. Lilygrove and Tarin subsequently encountered a kitchen, where they met a redcap named Bloody Toes. After assisting her with some unruly vultures, she divulged a secret about Bavlorna's peculiar weakness. The group's subsequent exploration of a meat locker revealed a still-beating heart, believed to belong to Octavian. Kiara, in a separate endeavour, retrieved a jar from the pantry.
Gahr's balcony exploration led to a conversation with a caged satyr named Vansel. After hearing Vansel's misadventures, Gahr offered a potion, allowing the shrunken satyr to comfortably nestle in his backpack. Ascending to the cottage's topmost floor, the group encountered various challenges, including a will-o-wisp and an aggressive chest. Their discoveries encompassed three spell scrolls of identify tied together with a lute string, a 12-inch-tall marionette with faces on opposite sides of its head (one a moon and the other a sun), and an unpunched ticket from the Witchlight Carnival signed by Isolde, the carnival’s original owner. The final room, Bavlorna's hoard, was a treasure trove of discarded items. A shadowy figure, clutching a spool, hastily departed. Their presence in the hoard room incensed Bavlorna, culminating in a confrontation. She eventually made her escape on her lily-pad.
Tarin and Kiara's subsequent investigation of a mysterious frog statue yielded intriguing, albeit inconclusive, results.
