Session 007 - The Electric Shock
General Summary
The party, with a sense of purpose, decides to revisit the Bullwug Hut, the very foundation of their alliance with the Resistance. Their aim? To secure the supplies that Bavlorna so passionately covets. Their journey across the tranquil lake brings them directly to the doorstep of Bavlorna's idyllic cottage. Upon disembarking on the opposite shore, Gahr offers a hearty welcome to the newest members of their brigade: Lilygrove and Kiara. However, Gahr's light-hearted jest about felines doesn't sit well with Kiara. As they approach Bavlorna's dwelling, they're met with the intimidating sight of a wasps' nest. Kiara, ever alert, sends her pseudodragon familiar to scout the area above. Simultaneously, Gahr and Wirth attempt to create a smokescreen, hoping to deter the wasps. When this tactic proves fruitless, Gahr, in a bold move, thrusts a crossbow bolt into the nest, provoking a swarm of wasps.
Amidst the ensuing chaos, Lilygrove, gripped by fear, casts a sleep spell, hoping to subdue the wasps. To her dismay, the spell only succeeds in sending Gahr into a deep slumber. The party springs into action: Wirth calls upon a Sacred Flame, Kiara releases an eldritch blast, and Talia, despite her best efforts, fails to hit her target. In the midst of this frenzy, Lilygrove manages to awaken Gahr, before launching her own eldritch assault on the swarm. After a fierce confrontation, the swarm is defeated, allowing the party to delve deeper into Bavlorna's cottage.
Inside, the party discovers a room dominated by a recessed pool, its edges adorned with mouldy tiles. The pool, filled with stagnant water, houses a stone well emitting a foul stench. A grand, albeit grimy, mirror stands in one corner, and a large lily pad floats atop the water. A wooden walkway, laden with household items, encircles the pool. Dressing dummies are clustered in one corner, and a wooden staircase spirals upwards from another. Five doors beckon exploration.
Lilygrove, ever curious, casts dancing light, illuminating the room's dark corners. As the party delves into their surroundings, they face a series of challenges. The first of these is a treacherous Dark Mantle, which, after being disturbed by Gahr, attaches itself to Tarin's head. The party's attempts to remove it are fraught with difficulty, with Talia even falling victim to its grasp at one point. After a tense struggle, the Dark Mantle is finally removed and thrown back onto its original dummy.
Their investigations are further interrupted when Gahr, lured by the glint of gold within the well, is suddenly engulfed by a gelatinous cube. The ensuing battle is chaotic: Kiara's witch bolt inadvertently electrifies Gahr, Talia casts a hunter's mark on the cube, and Lilygrove employs dissonant whispers. Wirth, drawing upon his divine powers, inflicts wounds upon the creature. In a desperate attempt to aid the party, Talia tries to use the Dark Mantle as a weapon against the cube, but this backfires, leading to the Dark Mantle attaching itself to her. The party eventually manages to defeat the gelatinous cube, but not without cost. Due to the unpredictable magic of Prismeer, the cube revives, forcing the party into another round of combat. This time, Gahr's weapon becomes lodged in the now petrified cube, leading to a poignant moment as he mourns the loss of his trusted blade.
Amidst these battles, Lilygrove's true intentions come to light. Upon discovering Sir Talavar imprisoned in a cage, she uses minor illusion on him and begins to search a nearby cupboard. When the rest of the party enters the room, she employs her innate magical ability, fey presence, in an attempt to charm them. Gahr falls under her spell, and she directs him to steal Talavar. However, Sir Talavar, not one to be easily deceived, informs the party of Lilygrove's actions. This revelation leads to a tense standoff, with Kiara and Tarin interrogating Lilygrove. Under pressure, Lilygrove reveals that Sir Talavar is a wanted figure in the Soggy Court and that she is bound by honour to return him to King Gullop XIX. After a heated exchange, Kiara and Lilygrove form a tenuous alliance, agreeing to unite against Bavlorna and the Hourglass Coven.
The session draws to a close as the party navigates the upper regions of the cottage. They're greeted by a gallery of portraits, each capturing the essence of various races. At the heart of this collection is a mirror, and within its reflective surface lurks a tall, mysterious figure named Charm.
