Court of the Riverlights
The Court of the Riverlights serves as the principal governing institution within the River Realms. It oversees the political, cultural, and religious life of the River Djinni inhabiting the Sahri and Nekhet rivers. As the central body located in Qasr-al-Nebu, the Court embodies the tradition of stewardship and maintains the ancient oaths that bind the River Djinni to their waterways.
Structure and Function
The Court of the Riverlights operates through a council system comprising senior members drawn from among the River Djinni. Decisions are made collectively within the Flowing Assembly, a formal council that convenes regularly in the Assembly Halls of Qasr-al-Nebu. Specific offices within the Court include:- Voice of the Currents: The spokesperson and primary envoy, responsible for communicating the Assembly’s decisions both internally and to external parties.
- Warden of Wellsprings: The official charged with the upkeep and sanctity of the rivers’ source regions.
- Keeper of Storms: The custodian of the city's defensive measures, tasked with mobilizing elemental forces when necessary.
Purpose and Influence
The Court’s primary purpose is the preservation of the riverine sanctity and the effective stewardship of Agela’s great watercourses. It regulates the use of water resources, enforces ancient river pacts, and undertakes diplomatic engagements to ensure that mortal activities do not disrupt the natural balance. Although its authority is confined to the domains of the River Djinni, its influence is felt indirectly across the River Realms through its cultural and ecological stewardship.Relations within the River Realms
The River Realms is composed of several such Courts, each governing distinct river basins. The Court of the Riverlights, as the preeminent body in Qasr-al-Nebu, often sets the precedent for governance and ritual practice among the Djinni. While it maintains an internal hierarchy, it also cooperates with other Courts when collective action is warranted, such as in matters of environmental preservation or defense against external threats.
