The Inquisitorium

The Inquisitorium is Torvahl's foremost authority on matters of national security, and serves as the country's secret police.   Established during the Hellscape War, the Inquisitorium's original purpose was to find individuals who were possessed by Demons or Devils and eliminate them as swiftly as possible before they became a significant threat to the general population.   For this reason, despite their purpose being to protect the people of Torvahl, most fear a visit from an Inquisitor, as they are perceived as a harbinger of doom. If an Inquisitor arrives at your door, it is likely they believe there to be a Demonic influence in your household, and over time this has led people to think they steal children away in the night or assassinate anyone who harbors any thoughts of dissent from the crown.
the latter of these beliefs is not too far-feched, as their role as the secret police of Torvahl does make them the ones tasked with discovering and apprehending potential spies. This perception of the Inquisitorium as a nefarious entity is not helped by their uniforms, which are entirely black and leave no skin exposed, the focal point being their iconic masks which both hide their identities and are shaped into the visage of the very demons which they hunt. This gives the an obviously unsettling appearance that causes most people to avoid them whenever possible.   There are reasons why they choose to adapt such an intimidating appearance, though the Inquisitorium is obviously very secretive about what those reasons are. The most obvious reason is that it hides their identity, but that would not explain why they deliberately have an intimidating uniform. The reasons for that one could safely assume are known only to the Inquisitors themselves.
