Cloriadmen
The Cloriadmen are a people group primarily occupying the lowlands and swamps of the region of Cloriadme, centered around the Cloriadmen Saltmarsh, which has given both the region and people its name. The Cloriadmen are used to living in the region and perform well in navigation and war in its many lakes, inlets, and creeks, which has made the region difficult to invade from the outside. The Cloriadmen are physically similar to the Fremedhian people, and are closely related, as approximately 50% of their ancestry comes from proto-Fremedhians, with the remainder being of Metsamish stock. Overall, they are rather tall, with pale skin, sandy hair, and brown or blue eyes.
Originally, the Saltmarsh was settled by Metsmaish populace fleeing conquest by the proto-Fremedhians, but eventually many of these Fremedhians came to live alongside and among the Saltmarshers. This led to the genesis of the Cloriadmen people, which began between 50 and 100 SC. The Cloriadmen were generally organized into tribal peoples throughout the first millennia SC, and many became tributaries of Old Fraspika during that nation's height. During this period, the first Kosmevair missionaries began cautiously spreading their faith to the people. Although the diffusion of ideas from Fraspika led to some centralization of the tribes during its height, the nation meddled far too much and played tribes off one another to ensure their weakness for them to properly unify while they were under its control. Even the split into three states did little to change this situation, but when Fraspika was destroyed by the Khanate of Clesentia, the Cloriadmen got the chance to modernize. New ideas won out, and one after another the various rulers adopted Kosmevair and centralized their states. This process was accelerated by the Kingdom of Ambolaine, which conquered much of the region, indirectly encouraging the rest to band together against them. Between 1200 and 1350, most of the modern Cloriadmen states would form, spreading Kosmevair across the lands. However, this would, in turn, be syncretized with the local faiths to produce Tweledism, which soon replaced Kosmevair as the majority religion of the masses. The formation of the Cloriadmen Confederation in 1400 to combat the invasion of the Duchy of Wellenia by the Kingdom of Fraspika was a defining moment in this period, as the Cloriadmen nations came together to fight a common enemy for the first time. Though this Confederation has historically done little to discourage war between the various Cloriadmen states, its guidelines for trade and commerce, as well as its use in defending the region from outside threats, makes it a defining moment in Cloriadmen history. With prosperity rising in Cloriadme, many of the nations saw extensive growth in key metrics such as population, farmland, and national income, propelling the region to the forefront of Telgren. Cloriadme enriched itself in trade with merchants from outside of Telgren, in particular Gnomes. Using this money, rulers turned to creating a system of dikes, dams, and swamp-draining which brought more of their lands under cultivation than ever before. Although most Cloriadmen did not get involved in the colonization of Ifyrial, the increase in global trade this brought gave them further gains in wealth.
The Cloriadmen nations are mostly organized into republics, typically governed by landed citizens and burghers. These republics, being led primarily by merchants, have spearheaded trade advances as well as cooperation with the Gnomish trading companies. Cloriadme's location along trade routes between northern Telgren, southern Telgren, and northwest Ærellion, have brought many foreigners, such as the Telrai, to their shores. The Cloriadmen are a swiftly rising people of Telgren, and once that is sure to challenge Fremedhian and Blazennian dominance in a matter of years if they can sort out their economic and political disputes.
Although very similar in many ways, the Cloriadmen are not a monolithic group, and can be divided into four different groups of people; the Vrilennia, the Niedkian, the Suvelkans, and the Binnenians. The westernmost group, Vrilennians mostly populate the three nations of The Republic of Schielderras, Bloeirra and The Duchy of Wellenia. This group of Cloriadmen is much more influenced by Fremedhian culture than the rest, and engage in much more land-based trade than the other Cloriadmen. They have also been traditionally less receptive to Tweledism, though that religion's decline has left most of the Cloriadmen with similar amounts of Tweledists. Vrilennians, while closely influenced by the Fremedhians, have also had a back-and-forth relationship with them. While relations with the Grand Duchy of Barloem have almost always been positive, the other Fremedhian nations have shown great desire for the Vrilennian lands, harming relations. In contrast to the Vrilennia, the Niedkian are barely influenced by the Fremedhians beyond religion. Their population stretches from the Stewardship of Teveska to the Republic of Alfumerra. They're known as the steroetypical Cloriadmen, being interested mostly in money, art, and religion. They are generally the prime movers of the oceanic trade of the Cloriadmen, with most of their population being coastal or in the farmlands of the Republic of Terales. Inland from the Niedkian, the Suvelkans mostly live within the Republic of Suvelka. They mostly live in the freshwater marshes of northern Cloriadme, which are slightly higher in elevation than the Saltmarshes and their slightly different traditions come from this. Being centered on the inland regions of Cloriadme as opposed to coastal has given them slightly different priorities than the other Cloriadmen and they are considered rustic. Finally, the Binnenians are a Cloriadmen people which can mostly be found in the islands of the Saltmarsh, mostly under the control of Terales. They've been less receptive to the Kosmevair faith, and were the last to be integrated into the Cloriadmen Confederation, having only been brought into the fold during the mid 1400s. Even today, they are less integrated and often left to their own devices, with many of their islands being totally ignored if not on trade routes.
