Andar

Andar is a trading city located at the Callow Delta, where the Callow Tributary flows into the Norgar Lake. Although it is not particularly large, it has earned a great deal of fame for being a hotspot for Syollan fashion, as well as its unique architecture. Built partially on small islands and partially on stilts—and allegedly fortified with magic—Andar’s buildings are surrounded by a system of canals and connected with bridges, with only few actual streets running through the town. While citizens might own their own canal boats, or rely mostly on the narrow bridges and paths, visitors may employ the use of the official boatmen, who wear cobalt blue robes and white porcelain masks that cover the lower halves of their faces.   Constructed underneath the canals and buildings are intricate tunnels that are often used by illicit groups for meetings and hideouts, since they are so difficult to find and navigate. While historically these tunnels have been used by the Silent Shepherds, most recently they were inhabited by a gang of smugglers.

People and Culture

Andar is a famed and popular place to visit, not only for its unique infrastructure but also since it is a centre of Syollan fashion and birthplace of many designers. The population is on average a little more wealthy than in other Miennan towns, and is one of the Aspect's most popular tourism destinations. Due to this popularity, there are a few notable buildings and places that are points of interest for tourists. The Floating Stalls, for example, are a collection of bouyant shop stalls in an open “square” in the city, where a multitude of trinkets and items can be bought, sometimes for rather high prices. Since Andar sees so many tourists and visitors, especially during the time of the Exhibition of Garments, there are quite a few social establishments, like the Elysian Casino (a large game hall) as well as artistic exhibits such as the Halls of History. Along with these, the many flashy hotels and foodhouses make for Andar's main income.

Adventures of the Formidable Disparates

The Disparates made a stop at Andar on their journey to Mig Dural. While Titus Crawbridge remained at a very wealthy establishment, the Black Swan, the Disparates elected to stay at the Slippery Eel, located towards the centre of town. They were given a free day to spend in Andar while Crawbridge attended to some private business, and so ended up earning some additional money.   Blueberry was split from the party when she set out to rescue Mudchet the goblin from the clasp of The Pack, while the rest of the party travelled out to the Blob Islands in order to kill whatever creature was sinking ships coming into port. They reconvened the next day and left for Titan's Hand on board of the Codrington.

"While it has been truly wonderful to stay in this quaint but beautiful town, I must say it has cost me far more than I had initially expected. Andar's talent of discreetly coaxing the gold out of my pocket has astounded me, and still I wish to return as soon as I possibly can. It is most likely the most charming thief I have ever known, and therefore is the most dangerous."
—Prof. Tenubus Vilderbrand, in a letter to his brother (1313)
