Free Peaks Dwarves

Free Peaks Dwarves in both the Dycides and Ethium share a common impulse toward rugged individualism. They don’t often define themselves by their family caste or creed but wish to be free to do as they will unfettered by such traditional bonds. That is not to say they do not form communities, but their communities are no where near as strict as “Old Man Torag” would prefer. The most common type of dwarf in non-traditional dwarven homes, they find themselves often travelling to strange and foreign lands finding meaning in the exploration and finding a better way forward.

Physical Description:

Free Peaks Dwarves are a short and stocky race, and stand about a foot shorter than most humans, with wide, compact bodies that account for their burly appearance. Male and female pride themselves on the long length of their hair, and men often decorate their beards with a variety of clasps and intricate braids. Clean-shavenness on a male dwarf is a sure sign of madness, or worse—no one familiar with their race trusts a beardless dwarven man.

Society:

While contributing to many cultures, Free Peaks Dwarves often find themselves the odd man out. Few communities of Free Peaks dwarves exist, but they contribute largely in the populations of Tenacity Hold, the Duskmouth Halls and other mountainous regions. Where their skills and knowledge benefit themselves and others most, you can usually find a comfortable Free Peaks Dwarf finding a job to pay the bills.

Relations:

While relatively rough around the edges, because of their live and let live attitudes not many groups have a reason to actively dislike them. They tend to get along well with Gnomes and Halflings whose curiosity they can identify with and the Oread for their mountain dwelling and aloof attitudes. They tend to be cautious around any that dwell too much on sorcery and magic, and distrust any Lizardfolk who act savagely, having been an enemy in past wars.

Alignment and Religion:

While many have a positive view of “Old Man Torag,” to many it is a passing fascination, and are the most prone of any dwarf to worship any deity. While they are often stereotyped as standoffish, they have a strong sense of friendship and justice, and those who win their trust understand that while they work hard, they play even harder—especially when good ale is involved. With their own need to see the world and a solid sense of empathy many Free Peaks Dwarves are somewhere on the Good spectrum.

Adventurers:

Having a keep interest in exploring may Free Peaks Dwarves are driven toward adventure. Seeing themselves forward, earning their own glory or wealth, or seeing things through for a friend makes them great allies toward others. Tending toward Fighters and Rangers, they can be found in a wide variety of roles in adventuring groups.
