Dwarves
The Dwarves of the Dycides have been forged by the ages into very polarized viewpoints. In all dwarves though, is the sense of being free from the thumb of other races is ever present, even if that has placed them in the role of the oppressor. All the dwarves of the Dycides also trace their first origin to the land in the hidden halls deep beneath High Table. When the Cloud Fortress was built it was with their skilled labor. When the Great Disk and the canals that unite all of the Dycides was designed they were favored by all. Since this age of ancient change, the dwarves have turned their attention toward new pursuits.
The true schism between the Dwarven families was due to the roles they played in ancient days. The insular Coalhearts found their improvements not recognized and their perspectives on religion resented by many other races, and in the age of vacancy they departed far to the South, to forge a new empire built on rare metals and commonplace slavery. While the Coalhearts were dismissed, the Silverbloods thrived becoming the favored sons and daughters, granted prominent places in governance of the beacon of freedom that is High Table. In the Age of Invasion the Silverbloods were granted rights to govern the mountain themselves. Eventually though the tone of the nation shifted toward Abadar and the Silverbloods too were displaced. Looking for a new home to expand to in the Mezal range.
No matter the bloodline, dwarves have found themselves in and among nearly every society of the Dycides finding themselves on roles where their wisdom or intelligence can guide others, or their sheer skill in metalworking shines above all. The Free Peaks dwarves, just as in Ethium, find themselves better adapted to lives amongst others, though their gruffness still keeps many at a distance. Regardless, the hammers of the dwarves, their knowledge of the mountains (or “Bones of the Earth” as they call them), and strength of their resolve has helped secure the Dycides for the generations to follow.
