Bledlyme Settlement in The Discontinuum | World Anvil

Bledlyme

Industry & Trade

Bledlyme is home to three major commercial activities. The deep lake on which the city sits is used for conventional fishing but also (and more profitably) for the harvesting of giant green "welakin pearls", a unique amber and pseudo chitinous material which is highly valued in jewelry and precious goods. The welakin grows on the brackish water reefs which are only found in the inland seas of Fereth. Salt pans to the north of the city formed the basis of a chemical industry which became the city's most important export in the age of the Trade Wars.   The illustration at the head of the article, shows the harvesting process underwater with one of the giant "pearls" on the bottom right.   From the 20th century until the 27th, the Trade Exchange building at Bledlyme was well known beyond Fereth as a hub for financial and commercial activity of all kinds. It fell into ruin (like much on Earth) as a result of the listlessness plague in the late 27th century and is shown here in the sad aftermath of that pandemic.
