XS-Ibex Stock Light Freighter

Origins

The XS-Ibex Stock Light Freighter is currently Zaiba Fuel and Space Innovations IGO's most popular selling spacecraft in its lineup of available ships. The freighter was originally designed and created for fleet use, primarily in partnership with some of Zaiba's close corporate friends like the X'angolia Corporation in mind. These ships were designed to cost very little to manufacture so that they could still be sold at a high markup and make Zaiba IGO significant money.    The sales for fleets of the ships were popular at first, but as corporations met their needs sales of the ship slowed and Zaiba IGO decided to put the remaining stock on the market for individual sale. The ships on this market ended up being an instant success with freelancers and small businesses buying them in droves. Because of this manufacturing of the ships started up again, with new ships being made ever since. The ships continue to be popular for a variety of reasons to this day and have made Zaiba IGO and fortune.

Why are they popular?

The XS-Ibex Stock Light Freighter is popular for two main reasons, one is for its low price point and the other is for its ease of modability. The low price point, at least when compared to other comparable models sold by other corporations, is arguably one of the best in the new and new-to-you markets.   The price is nearly half of the next comparable model of the same or similar size. There are of course add-ons and different packages that can significantly upgrade this price, and often times salesmen are able to talk buyers into these packages due to various sales tactics. But, on the baseline, the price point is enticing for those just starting in the hauling and long-distance trade business as a starter vehicle that they can tack on new parts and mods to whenever they need.   On the flip side, the freighter was and is once again being to be popular with corporations, as they can buy or even rent long-term large fleets of the freighter at a reduced cost. Much like individual sales, these freighter fleet deals are often inflated with extra add-ons which end up costing companies much more than they expected by the end of their deal.

Examples of Modifications

The freighters can be modified with all sorts of add-ons and almost complete conversions depending on the needs of the owner.   Common additions include weapons systems, which the Ibex does not come default with, this is a typical add-on for those travelling into less than savoury areas where pirates and bandits may be more frequent.   Other modifications include extra cargo holds for larger and longer trade route capabilities, enhanced communications arrays, more capable engine systems, and more.    Some pilots of the XS-Ibex have even gone as far as stripping the freighter down, removing its freight capabilities and instead installing modifications to turn the freighter into a streamlined spacecraft able to outrun a large host of other ships designed for speed.

These modifications are certainly rarer, but the XS-Ibex's ability to be transformed into just about anything including a speed machine is part of the reason why it's so popular.
Summary
The XS-Ibex Stock Light Freighter is a popular economy choice of spacecraft commonly used in company fleets and by freelancer haulers and traders. It is a common choice due to its affordable cost when compared to other brands and for its high modability.   The company that constructs and sells these crafts, Zaiba Fuel and Space Innovations IGO is known for cutting corners, many of these ships have been found to be of low quality and some have even had reused parts installed in them despite the ships being advertised as new.

Defects Controversy
Zaiba IGO has in the past been caught reusing old parts from unused and scrapped ships in order to save on parts costs.   They have avoided a full recall but have had to offer free replacement parts to the ships and customers affected. Though it is in question the quality of the replacement parts that were issued.
