The Bufons

Origins on Bufo

The Bufons are the native species of Bufo (now known as Phorbaceus Imperia, and have resided there for numerous millennia, long before the Imperial Founders overtook their planet. The origins of the Bufon are relatively unknown as the majority of their early existence occurred well before the arrival and mapping of the Delta Space began to occur. However, it has been inferred by the small amount of study and research conducted on their species by Imperial researchers that the Bufons is an ancient species and evolutionary line. Potentially even spanning back to the primordial days of the planet.   It is theorized that the Bufon come from a long line of Bufonidae creatures, first evolving in the primordial swamps of the planet and eventually mutating to their current stage after millions of years of cause and effect from the shifting landscapes and environs of their planet. All the way up until the years leading to the Imperial invasion of Bufo.   During the years before the Imperial Founder's arrival the Bufons were peaceful and rarely fought on any sort of large scale, though the occasional small-scale squabble did occur they were typically over in a short amount of time. This is in part due to the Bufons' calm demeanour, shyness, and overall lack of aggression. They would much rather resolve their problems through conversation and peaceful negotiations than violence.   Due to their peaceful nature, the Bufons did not take any initial ill to the arrival of the Imperial Founders, instead trying to communicate a peaceful partnership to them once they had finally met. The Imperials not understanding the language of the Bufons mostly ignored their attempts, perceiving them as nothing more than a primitive species of little more importance than a common insect. Instead, the future Imperials focused on building up their defences and expanding their new communities. Despite various attempts, the Bufons were not able to open up a proper dialogue, and never officially would. Over the next several hundred years, their territory would dwindle more and more as the Imperials pushed them out. The Bufon's never fought back, and couldn't fight back even if they were inclined to do so as the Imperials were far superior technologically and tactically.   Now, several thousand years later, the Bufons are a small percentage of their original population. Many of their settlements are gone, and they either live in squalid villages or in ramshackle ghettos created for the purpose of housing the Imperial workforce. The Bufons eke out a meagre existence by working for the Imperials as a general tasks workforce, with much of their culture and history being lost having been paved over by the expansionist mentality of the Imperials.

Culture and Personality

The Bufons, as previously noted are a peaceful race that practically despises violence, they tend to be lazily ambivalent to most things especially talk or involvement in confrontation. They are hard workers when inspired or forced, but would much prefer to lay about in the sun or while away the day in the dry reed fields of Bufo crunching on the various large insects they grab out of the sky with their long sticky tongues.   Despite this laziness, they are quite spiritual people, though they have no sort of organized religious sects. They believe in the spiritual energy of their planet and commonly mediate with each other in large group ins, staying still for hours and communing with nature. A long melodic humming emanating from each of their throats in harmony.   This practice was common in the pre-Imperial days but less so now as the remaining Bufons have slowly been forced to live in less natural and more cramped city settings. Though even these Bufons try and keep small bits of soil or reed from their natural habitats of the wild nearby so they can still attempt small communions in their small apartments. Though in much smaller groups or even alone, their melodic hums carrying a much more sombre and lonely tone.   Bufons typically lived in small villages with as little as a dozen people, or at the largest villages only a hundred or so. They kept a village family system, with all in the village responsible for the rearing and education of younglings. These villages were typically populated with a variety of low reed and thatch homes and buildings where the Bufons would sleep and keep dry and safe from rain or harsh weather when it occurred.   Though the Bufons much prefer to stay out in nature and would often stay outside even overnight when the weather was nice and hot. These settlements are rare nowadays as the Imperials take up more and more of the preferred habits of the Bufons, forcing them into smaller and smaller areas or into their Imperial city ghettos.
Summary
