Anthrozoa Korali - Koralians

Origins and Extinction

A species that is considered to be completely extinct by the wider population of the Delta Space, the Anthrozoa Korali or simply Koralians, were a unique sentient race of beings comprised of high-functioning coral.   Their homeworld originally sat in the northwestern stretches of O.Sec F and was tropical biomes primarily filled with oceans and vivid beaches of pink and orange sand. The Koralians and their homeworld existed long before the arrival of the Founders, having lived a peaceful life primarily under the waves of the planet amongst massive stretches of coral reef.   Koralians did develop space-faring technology but did not use it often, preferring to spend their time wistfully on their tropical paradise planet. Only sending off ships now and again for some trade here and there amongst their close neighbours. Trade did increase somewhat after the Founders arrived, but the Koralians still mostly kept to themselves. Preferring to stay out of the increasing number of corporate and political wars that seemed to be constantly raging across the Delta Space.   Sadly, the peaceful lives of the Koralians would be cut short by a mysterious virus that began to plague their world. Killing off their coral beaches, poisoning the waters, and suffocating the algae that fed their growth. Making life impossible for the Koralians.   Over a single decade, the race would be wiped out on their home planet, and while their kind was able to travel in space their bodies were not meant for long-distance travel. Requiring specialized suits in a similar fashion as the Gasloids]. It is possible that space-faring Koralians still live, but sightings of these few have been undocumented and the race is considered extinct, as even if few individuals lived they no longer have any way to repopulate in any meaningful way.

Physiology and Growth

Koralians varied in size, shape, and colour vastly and were technically comprised of many different sub-species depending on the region in which they were grown into adulthood. They could be of any range of colours, blue, green, orange, or pink, some Koralians even take on patterns that resemble their home stretch of coral reef. Koralians could height and weight varied greatly, with some only reaching three feet tall and eighty pounds, while others grew up to seven feet tall and weigh several hundred pounds.   The same was true for their bodily structures, some had bipedal structures, while others had four or more legs to keep themselves upright and mobile. It all depended on the needs of the Koralian in their chosen habitat. Koralians had the ability to alter their structures to a limited degree, breaking off pieces of themselves and reattaching them to new locations in which they wanted new appendages to grow. As long as they had the nutrients required to help their growth they were not overly limited to what shapes they could become.   Koralians are comprised of a type of "hard" coral, which only grows to adulthood with sufficient amounts of a specific kind of algae that only grows on their homeworld. This means they can only grow to adulthood, and heal any sort of serious external wounds by spending time in their homeworlds waters where the algae grows. This unfortunately means, that now that the world has become decimated by plague, their waters and the algae within it hopelessly poisoned, they have no way to grow and heal making life impossible.

Hope for Survival

Unbeknownst to the wider public of the Delta Space a small colony of Koralians still lives, quietly tucked away on a small tropical planet on the edges of western O.Sec F.   The Koralians, years before the event that doomed their homeworld, sent off a small delegation to colonize the far-off planet, as a test to see if their special strain of algae could survive in a new environment.   Unfortunately, the crew never reported back in and it was assumed lost. But, they were in fact successful, and the algae thrived in the new environment creating a secondary home in which the Koralians could survive.   But, due to unforeseen circumstances that destroyed their ability to travel and communicate across space the Koralian delegates were stranded on what would become their new home, unable to contact their brethren on the other side of O.Sec F.   This unwittingly has created a potential saviour for the race, a new haven for the species to potential grow anew.

Cover-up "Accident"

The plague that ravaged the Koralian homeworld has never officially been identified, nor has its source of origin. However, in actuality, the plague was caused by a hazardous spill, perpetrated by a MegaCorpo transport that wrecked on a nearby asteroid field while travelling through the system.   The material which the tankard was carrying, was an important lubricant used in mining machines and Asteroid Belt Mining and Haulers in the nearby Exon Authority territory. This lubricant was highly toxic to the algae on the planet upon which it spilled, acting much like a plague or virus would.   The MegaCorpo quickly covered up the incident and fled the area, as the discovery of the accident would have exposed their working within the Exon Authority's space without permission.   Which would have caused a long legal battle and likely a loss of funds. A cruel decision that unknowingly led to the destruction of an entire species, a further reason why the MegaCorpo in question does not wish for this information to come to light.
Summary
The Anthrozoa Korali or simply Koralians, were a race of sentient high-functioning coral beings that are now considered to be extinct.   Originating from a tropical planet in the northwestern reaches of O.Sec F the species sadly met its demise after a mysterious and deadly plague destroyed their coral reefs and suffocated the nutrient-rich algae that their race relied upon for growth and refreshment.   And while some lingering Koralians may still live, sightings of them have remained undocumented for years and the race has officially been deemed extinct.

Wet Suits
The Koralians used specially designed wet suits that would allow for temporary stays above water and even allow for space travel. Similar in design to the Gasloids Life Sustainment Suit, these suits replicate the environment of the Koralian's homeworld to allow for sustained life away from their nutrient-rich waters.   The suit itself is slimmer than the Gasloid's bulky design and is topped by a cylindrical dome helmet. The Koralian would often have to shave off parts of their own coral in order to fit within the suit without puncturing it. The entire suit is filled with water from the Koralian's homeworld, which has the necessary nutrients to allow for the Koralian inside to live off for a short period of time.   Usually a few weeks at a time before the suit needs to be refreshed with new water. For long-distance travel, which is rare, large tanks of Koralian water are filled and placed upon whatever spacecraft the Koralian is travelling upon. This allows for refreshment of the suit and hence allows for longer distances to be travelled in one trip.
