Amaeria "Firebird" Ozark Character in The Delta Space | World Anvil

Amaeria "Firebird" Ozark

Who is The Firebird?

Amaeria "Firebird" Ozark, is a well-known pirate, and self-proclaimed revolutionary, in The Delta Space. She is known as The Firebird, due to her fiery dispersion, her ever-burning desire to push boundaries, and her bright red hair. She claims to be the direct descendant of the infamous pirate Captain Montgomery 'T-Bird' Ozark, though this claim is highly disputed as no evidence of T-Bird siring an heir has been found.    Amaeria argues that he in fact had several children in his short time traversing the void, but he either never knew of them or didn't want them involved in his business so he left them in the dark and thus never even met most of his offspring. Ameria says she is the descendant of one of these left-behind children, and that she has proof of such. Though she says it is nobody's business but her own and has decided not to share said proof with anyone but her closest comrades.   While she shares much of T-Bird's passion and energy, she differs from the T-Bird in one significant way. Amaeria considers herself a revolutionary. She believes that hundreds of Corpos, and corrupted governments, have taken far too much control over The Delta Space, and have squeezed its denizens for every shred they have in them. She has sworn to take down these corrupted businesses and governments that populate and control the galaxy and hopes to cause enough of a stir that will allow people to take back control of their lives. And while many believe this is a lazy attempt to exonerate herself from her crimes, she has garnered herself a devout following. Including her closest allies nicknames the Firebird's Flock, a group of pirate allies that have sworn themselves to her cause and to protect her from harm.   The Firebird has caused all sorts of chaos for authorities and governing bodies across the galaxy. Amaeria has partaken in hundreds of piracy and revolutionary acts over the years she has been active, conducting raids against merchant ships, stealing from mining facilities, etc. And while she hasn't reached the same level of infamy as her legendary ancestor she has arguably had the longer more impactful career.

Incarceration

One of her most brazen acts was the sabotage and destruction of one of the prison mining colonies in the Obor system, a stretch of space that was forcibly taken over by the Imperial Council of Planets some years ago. The mining colony in question was operated by the Imperials policing force, called the Imperial Protection Federation, or I.P.F for short. The Firebird had decided that these prisoners had been unfairly prosecuted, a common accusation thrown at the  I.P.F, and that The Imperials had to be shown that they weren't free from the consequences of their actions.    In a sudden, and unexpected attack The Firebird and her Flock suddenly attacked the station. Destroying guard stations, communications towers, supply depots, and more. Before they left, they sprung as many prisoners as they could, allowing some to board their vessels to escape while encouraging others to commandeer Imperial vessels to escape. Overall, the mission was a success, setting back The Imperial supply chain and causing quite the headache.   But, this action was the last straw for The Imperials, they had dealt with The Firebird in the past but had yet to apprehend her. But this time was different, she hadn't just sacked a ship or two, she had destroyed a costly facility and freed valuable prisoners from important work. As such, the I.P.F was instructed to make her arrest a priority, and would commit a much larger portion of their efforts towards her arrest.    The next few months found The Firebird encountering the I.P.F more and more, even when she left the sector (this is rare as policing forces are often only allowed to work in sectors outside of their home upon strict agreements, the Imperials never sought such approvals). She managed to evade them for a time, but her ability to conduct her work was drastically diminished as she was constantly on the run. Unfortunately for Amaeria, her exhaustion would catch up to her, and she would be caught unaware while resting in a small space station on the outer edges of The Delta Space.   The I.P.F surrounded her ship and stormed aboard dispatching her unprepared crew as they went. Finally, they reached her room and blew the doors out of their holdings. More than a dozen soldiers flooded in and were met with an enraged Firebird wielding dual pistols. A firefight broke out, with the Firebird, Amaeria Ozark intending to fight to the death. And while she did take out almost half a dozen soldiers she would eventually succumb to a simple tranquillizer dart, carefully shot during a lull in the fight.   From there, she was taken to the NX7 High-Risk Security and Correctional Station, where she has stayed for the past several months. Her closest confidantes, her Firebird's Flock, upset at their failure to protect her have already sworn to free her from the infamous prison.
