The "Scrud"

Marylin Cutter (a.k.a. Scrud)

Scrud Cutter is one of the heroes of Camp Nordic Frog. She is a crass, tough, dirty matron who never gives up, will eat anything, and is much stronger than she looks. Her parents were homeless people in Seattle, and she turned away from the violence of their Uprising in order to live a solitary life in the wasteland. She is a scavenger, a mechanic, and a beast-rider. She has command over supernatural powers due to her mastery of the Babel virus.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Scrud is a meaty woman with big arms and a pitted, wind burnt face. She is past her middle age and well into elder status, but is also still very wiry and agile. Due to years in the barren wilderness she can fall asleep anywhere and eat almost anything. She is healthy and stronger than she looks.

Identifying Characteristics

Scrud seems to always have a layer of dust or grease from her ruin scavenging.

Physical quirks

Scrud has absolutely no cyberware or bioware - an anomaly in her postmodern society. She is totally biological.

Special abilities

Scrud is able to change a person's relationship to light, causing them to flicker in and out of sight. She is also able to summon a huge protective barrier that only she can pass through. Scrud is skilled at scavenging for supplies, crafting things from those supplies, and she is also knowledgeable about engineering. She is much tougher and hardier than your average person. She resists poison, disease, harsh environments, a lack of food and water, and exhaustion with ease.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Scrud was born in a homeless camp, her parents contractors who were priced out of their homes by continuing gentrification in Seattle. She was friends with the revolutionary Duarte Price while they were both teenagers. The pair of them had a playful romance during their developing years, but it never developed into anything. She rejected the violence of the revolution that Duarte spoke of at the beginning of The Uprising. Instead of joining in on his Homes for All campaign, she ran away from the city of her birth and into the wilderness. There, she survived alone for years, scavenging for supplies and sleeping wherever she could dig a den.   During her early adulthood, Scrud lived alone in the wilderness. She became a mother while surviving alone against the elements, naming her child Nova Cutter. She raised Nova alone until she 13. At that age, Nova rejected Scrud's wild life and moved into the city to carve out her own niche. Scrud was very proud of her daughter's drive and verve, and kept up with her goings-on while respecting her autonomy. With her bird out of the nest, Scrud continued on to have solo adventures as she traveled across the continental United States.   While traveling, Scrud found a massive cache of Candy, a new drug synthesized from a mold that grows on radioactive materials. Becoming a dealer of the stuff provided Scrud with riches like she had never dreamed of before, but she also grew addicted to her own supply. She continued on like that for two full years before she ran out of Candy. She met withdrawal head on, lived through that ordeal, and moved on with her life.   After recovering from withdrawal, Scrud flourished and became a proud citizen, returning to her hometown of Seattle. On the outskirts, she built herself the "Scruddiest" and most delightful post-apocalypse scrapyard den. In a landfill she found the remnants of a defective spacecraft and she carved that into a permanent home for herself.

Accomplishments & Achievements

She became involved with the forces that caused The Fall of Earth. She was one of the first to encounter the warmonger TITAN Myrmidon after it escaped from its military cage, and she was the first human to accept the Babel virus. She was personally responsible for the largest Babel virus outbreak to date, with a television broadcast responsible for an estimated 500,000 simultaneous turnings. She flew into the depths of space following the apocalypse, on a surveillance craft owned by her ally, Grimm. On a journey that matched the record for the depth of human spaceflight, she visited the asteroid belt, Jupiter's moon of Ganymede, and Neptune's moon of Triton.   Scrud and her crew discovered the Triton Gate Network and Scrud was the first in her crew to enter it. On the other side she discovered a wondrous cornucopia of life, a massive planet seemingly in the perfect range for human habitation. On that planet, she made first contact with not one, but two intelligent alien species, though that day did not result in an actual physical meeting. She was also the first one to eat alien flesh, though her first explorations found little that was healthy to eat.   After Nordic Frog Beach was settled by humans, Scrud traveled into that planet's harsh mountains to find a Nordic Winged Eel that lived there and was the first human to tame and ride one.

Failures & Embarrassments

Scrud may have allegedly caused The Fall of Earth by spreading the Babel virus to hundreds of thousands of people at once. It may have also been the only thing that saved mankind.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

To live a good, full life without people bothering her too much.

Savvies & Ineptitudes

She is tough and ingenuitive, but crass and uncharismatic. Scrud likes to refer to people by how 'Scruddy' they are. That refers to their ability to escape from scrapes alive, think of unconventional solutions to things, and to accomplish things without relying on other people.
