Nordic Frog Beach

Nordic Frog Beach is Gate setting #10 on the Triton Gate Network. It has a mixture of temperate-and-alpine continental climate zones and subtropical and tropical oceanic climate zones. It is humid with a breathable gaseous atmosphere and has a temperature range suitable for human exploration. It is inhabited by amphibious animals and plants that appear similar to seaweed. Two tents and a small camp suitable for transhumans have been set up near the Gate.   The planet's Gate is set on the north side of a subtropical island's beach. Across a channel several miles across lies a continent defined by dramatic, sharp volcanoes rising into the sky.   Nordic Frog Beach was found to be the home planet of an amphibious race of intelligent lifeforms, termed Amphid by the scientists on Triton.

Geography

Atmospheric Condition:   Pressure: 1.4 atmospheres   Composition: 89% nitrogen, 8% oxygen, 3% argon   Day length: 17 hours   Gravity: 0.89   Temperature Range: -25 °C/4 °C/35 °C minimum/mean/maximum   This world has low-lying island archipelagos, sharp, steep continental mountains, shallow seas of liquid saltwater, and chilly-but-habitable weather. Rainstorms and hailstorms are extremely common. The hailstones can be large enough to be deadly. Caution is advised during storms.

Fauna & Flora

Flora here appears to mostly be related to either ferns or seaweed. The sea near the shore is covered in a slimy layer of seaweed, which sprouts tall stalks and wide, circular leaves to catch the sunlight as it migrates inland. The plant life has an extremely fibrous, rubbery texture. As such, it is difficult to eat but tough, flexible, and waterproof.   Fauna here appears to mostly be related to frogs and other amphibious creatures. Sea life is abundant near the shore, and amphibious life extends partway into the shore.   Local intelligent life has been discovered. Multiple abandoned settlements have been found by explorers, ranging in size from ~200 population to ~15,000 population (estimated based on human ratio of dwellings to beings).    Nordic Frog Beach is home to multiple species of dangerous meat-eating predators. The most dangerous, the planet's apex predator, is a triphibious creature related to the eel. This creature is more than 4 meters long, dwells in mountain cliffsides, and dives into waterways to feed.

Natural Resources

This world has rubber ferns that grow naturally. They are strong, tough, flexible, and waterproof, making them a valuable building material.   There is abundant liquid water present, both in saltwater and freshwater forms.    The local intelligent life used a supremely nutritious and highly caloric local food crop to develop large settlements and cities.
