Vampires
Character Break
Terminology used by the writer
I'll have to break character here to make a disclosure: this article is a mess. the Vampires as a thing in this world have evolved allot since they were first conceived, probably three months at least back from when I'm writing this. as such, here are how they are currently (as of January 6th, 2020) referred to as far as Terminology goes. as well as a quick note on what each this is.How to read the chart: What I try to do here is show how each creature correlate to what they have above them, Vyre are Vampires, so are Nosferatu and Consans, but a Nosferatu does not have a Family.
It's worth mentioning that a Nosferatu should probably lead to "individual" but for reasons of making it compact, this is what we have. Vampires: Vampire simply means a creature that drinks the blood of living creatures to sustain itself, this makes the Nosferatu a somewhat difficult thing to identify as Vampire, but as their diet has come to subsist of mostly blood, they can be classed as such
Vyre: Vyre are the Original Vampires, their article is fairly well fleshed out at the point of writing, though it will be revisited soon enough to ensure it is good. Vyre then is our first Branch to go down, leading to the further dividing till we get to an individual
Clan: The clan is the term used in regards to the Vyre to refer to the four clans among them, Steel, Gold, Crimson, and Null. a Vyre's relation to the clan can be likened to perhaps what country you're born in, or at least which major part of a country you come from. among Vyre, there can be offspring that have parents from two different clans, in which case they will be regarded as part of the clan their dominant parent belongs to. this does mean that a Scarlet Duet child that has different clan parents will have to be specifically referred to fittingly.
Family: the Vyre families have a lot in common with what Ill speak about later, namely the Consan Dynasties. they tend to have a clear Progenitor and Sire, a joined identity following a particular mindset. a family will exclusively contain a member of the same clan, though Vyre of other Clans might be closed in league with them.
Consanguinity: The Consans are the thing most in the age where generations of the long-lived races have passed would think about when they hear "Vampires" they have generations (which admittedly should have been included in this chart, but as I missed it, I'll include it in this list) which are the main separator. but no matter who Sired them, "Consanguinity" is what they call themselves as a group (of course, that's a term that grew in use over time, but let's not get into the nitty-gritty)
Generation: the main thing that defines a consan's power is their generation, meaning how far removed they are from the Vyre who sired them. the first generation is Consans who were made undead in the way they are by a Vyre, the second generation are those who were made Vampires by the first generation and so on. the most recent generation that walks in the 13th cycle would probably be 6th or 7th, which matches fairly well with the DnD 5e vampire stat block.
Dynasty: the Dynasty (which really should be what the "Individual" Vyre connect to) that a Consan belongs to represents their progenitor/originator (that's a term I'll have to settle on in time) most of them have a clear idea on who their first-generation, or maybe second or third, ancestor is. Dynasties work in a similar way to how Clans of Vampire the Masquerade from white wolf function, in a way to let vampires have a range of variants. and as each is progenited by a Vyre, they will have inherited a particular skillset from that progenitor.
Note on Consanguinity and Dynasty: up until writing this, the term "Dynasty" in referring to the different 'clans' of consan was not something I've done. until now, I've mostly used the terminology "Consan of gold" for example, when referring to a Consan (Vampire of the Consanguinity) who has a progenitor within clan gold. and for the most part, this would be an accurate way to say it, but moving forward, Ill try to use the terminology "a consan of a Dynasty of gold" if I need to be very specific, as that is quite a mouthful, I might slip into saying "Consan of gold" at times, in which case, here's the disclaimer that it would be a bit inaccurate, but not too far off for the sake of simplicity.
Nosferatu: These are creatures that have probably seen the most flux meta wise, they have ever shifted in how I intend to use them. as of right now, they worked as a form of Goul for Vyre, they were given to drink from a Vyre after having much of their blood drained, but not all, allowing them to reproduce in the same way as their species use to do. they form groups in the 13th cycle, and are mostly a night terror creature, out there, mostly a threat if one who sired them were to return, as they are bound to obey. they drink blood, but do not require it to sustain themselves, so their Vampire classification is a bit muddy. as far as their relation to progenitors goes, they have only inherited some powers derived from the clan heritage, but most of the time, this is very small
Ghoul: a ghoul (a name very much in need of substitution) is a thrall made by a Consan, they can be likened to Vampire spawn, and might eventually flow together to become that, but for now, they are mortals given blood from a Consan after having some of their (the mortal) own drained, making it a similar, all be it lighter, version of how Vyre made Nosferatu.
Other Terminology: Ill have to say, that as easy as this stuff is, the world I'm writing is not as simple. I have no intention to write something that is completely clear cut in-universe, I intend to write something that feels real. to this end, here are some random notes on terminology:
- The Vyre uses the term "Neophytes" about the Consanguinity, this term is also used within the consanguinity to some degree about a new generation Consan.
- The Vyre have further split in their ranks, of groups formed between close friends, alliances, groups of scholars and so on. this would be something expanded on in their own article.
Vampyrs, twisted beasts of a dark dimension, the progenitors to the Consanguinity. these dark creatures come from their own world, seeking strong blood to feat on. they grow in stages, an embraced humanoid going through the following phases:
Juvenile:
a fledgling, a hunched creature that still can feed on human food, but drinks blood not to weaken to a husk.Neophytes:
their powers manifesting as they have proven themselves worthy to be put through rituals, these are the progenitors of the line of blood lickers that now roam the world.Vyre:
a flying monster of the night, not yet a Vampyr, but close enough to be a true danger, often they are put under the teachings of a young Vampyr, or a Vyre in the near stages to achieve the goal...Vampyr:
going though a final ritual, the creature throws of its humanity, taking on the form of the Vampyr, becoming a true monster, and a beast within the council of bestial creatures that seek blood.Other Subgroups
a few further falvours that vampires come in are:Ferral Vyre
when a neophyte goes through the ritual to become a vyre, there is always the risk that something goes wrong, this spawns a grotuesqe monster of the night, a beast sometimes domesticated by Neophytes as mounts.Nosferatu
the juvaniles that escaped the fallout of The Dark Scarlet Empire. became the Blood Goblins, and among these, some seek more power, drinking deep from the fountains of mortal necks, and should they get enough, or take from a strong enough creature, they may grow into a Nosferatu, a brood leader, a boss of its group who takes what was once a scary tale to protect children to a viable threat for the local blood hunters to take on.Destruction
with creatures like these, it is worth note how to eliminate them. what you will find here, is a chart over what will work, and to what effect on what state of Vampire:Basic Information
Anatomy
Growth Rate & Stages
Juvanile:
The creation of a Vampyre Begins with a humanoid having most of their blood drained, and then being fed some of the blood of either a Vyre of full Vampyre, the creature feeding the blood becomes a master of the new juvenile, a bond that remains until they go through the ritual to become a Neophyte. survivers from this cast are sometimes called Blood Goblins and fester in dark corners of the world.Neophytes:
When a Juvenile is judged to be worthy, their master may put forth the suggestion that they are made a Neophyte, going through the ritual of becoming a Neophyte breaks the mystical bond that binds them to their master. in this stage, the powers of the blood that the vampire possesses starts to manifest, this can vary in how it manifests, and in fact, this variety is from where the clans of the Blood Lickers come. Blood LickersVyre:
After potentially decades, if a Neophyte either shows the potential, or proves itself powerful enough, it may be granted the gift of becoming a Vyre, doing so consists of a ritual of (ALTERNATIVE 1) Drinking the blood of a Vampyre, and in this way solidifying their Vampyre Clan heritage. (ALTERNATIVE 2) Drinking a challis of blood which has been affected by old rituals. (END OF ALTERNATIVES) this marks the end of their youth, as they take on a role in the vampyre society as an actual member of it, rather than a cog in a machine. this stage also sees their body change, to more resemble the true form of the Vampyre race, though they do not possess the powers of shapeshifting that their elders have.Vampyre:
A Vampire may spend centuries as a mare Vyre, toiling away as a mare servant of their lord. but if they prove themselves to be worthy through some great feat, they may catch the eye of a true vampyre, this individual may then take them under their wing, and present to a council the idea to elevate the Vyre, and make them a true Vampyre. should this be accepted, the Vyre is put through a final ritual in which they throw aside the last of what they once were, and take their place as a member of the Vampyre race.Dietary Needs and Habits

Isolation into madness
Even though Vampyrs live until they are destoryed, and this may sound like a blessing to mortals, any long lived race will tell you its anything but that. the imortality granted by Vampyrism means that a Vampyr that is sealed away can slowly be driven to madness by starvation, if sealed correctly, they will slowly, though lack of proper rest, be hungered to a husk marely waiting to recive the life giving sustinace it needs to regain its former stregnth. and in this state... they can be feed a variety of things, dripping down into a coffin of such a drained beast can be poured transmutative fluids, warping the form of the once proud stalker of the night into nothing more then a mindless brute to ram down the walls of their new regins enemies. or they can simply be thrown to the waves, to be sunk bellow the ocean into the depths of the sea where no sane creature will ever seek...Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Author's Notes
Full disclosure is to be made that I have taken much inspiration for the vampires of Runescape for how I chose to design these creatures, and Vampire the masqurade has been a large source of inspiration for the blood lickers. in trying to create my own ideal vampire variant Ive sought to make a coherent way to put all the pices togehter. some ideas have also come from warhammer fantasy, though those will show more in tales~
