Diarchy of Callist

Culture

It has been said that Callist is a nation made of other nations. As a coastal state, and one much warmer to foreigners than the Abenese Empire, Callist acts as the gateway to Primus for visitors from Oceanus. And as Oceanus is widely held to be the easiest of the inner realms to traverse, this leads to Callist getting a lot of visitors.   The people of Callist are settled from every corner of the The Crossroad Realms. They are of every species, culture, and creed, and those raised in Callist take pride in the nation's welcoming, accepting attitude to foreigners.

Assets

As an eastern coastal nation on the mouth of Kraken Bay, Callist is a necessary stopping point for most traders on their way to the inner states of Primus. Thus, its trade power is its greatest asset. It is not wholly reliant on imports, either. The Callistan Peninsula hosts decent mining potential, thick forests, and fertile farmland to support itself.

History

Before the Callistan Civil War, the nation's borders expanded to the doorstep of the Maznah Caliphate, and had ambitions of marching on the Abenese Empire to the north. The war arose over the wishes of the Lira province to be considered an independent state, citing the radical differences in cultural and economic needs between the inland province and the coastal provinces.   The war was surprisingly nonviolent, though negotiations did drag on for a long time. Following the resolution between these parties, the then-King of Callist named the rebel leader a Duke under the crown of Callist, and allowed the newly-formed Duchy of Lira to function under Callistan supervision. Since then, Lira has become an independent nation, and no longer pays tribute to the Callistan crown.
