The Guilded Dirks Military Formation in The Cradle of Worlds | World Anvil

The Guilded Dirks

Technically the regiment is known as the 2nd Regiment of the Peoples Reavers, but most regiments have adopted more colorful names. While the 1st Regiment oversees the protection of the city of Matermar, the 2nd is in charge of the protection of the palace, central temple, and the diplomatic corps. This makes them one of the most coveted positions in the Peoples Reavers.   The colorful name has gained a reputation of a double entendre, The Gilded Dirks refer both to their symbol of position and their flamboyant and self absorbed behavior. They never quite do something so bad to bring on the ire of the Matron, but they aren't well received when flaunting their status in the city.

Equipment

Blue and green lacquered sheet metal formed breastplates, grieves, pauldrons and helmets with plumed feathers. Under this is a gambison of light green. They are armed with a weapon or two of their expertise when on official assignments, but when on ceremonial duty a dirk, a longsword and glaive are standard. The symbol of office is the dirk which has a decorative brass inlay in the hilt. Designed originally by elven sword smiths, it was a favorite design of a companion of the first Matron.

Structure

The regiment is comprised of a Chief Captain, Lieutenant Chief, and four captains. The normal contingent varies with sixty four to one hundred and twenty officers typically in the unit.

Tactics

Focusing on security and defensive methods, they have a mix of spell casters and well trained martial artists who specialize in security. They are known to have interrogation chambers with permanent truth effects and methods of detecting and screening the etherial or otherwise invisible from entry into the temple and principle estates of the Matron. A series of communication pins allow instant communication with all others of with a pin in the local vicinity, which allows them incredible coordination.
