Hornacs

Hornacs are the most common beast of burden in all of Gorel and they provide a significant portion of the meat, cheese, and leather to the world. Many festivals have Hornac displays, with the ability to shape horns during growth, the rural areas often compete for the best horn design. Occasionally the killing of enraged Hornacs for sport is participated in, however most find the practice distasteful.

Anatomy

The most striking aspect that separates the Hornac from other bovines is the striated and spiral curving horns. In most other ways they are similar to other bovines in their eating of grasses and brush and usefulness in domestication. Their hair color ranges from cream to redish or brownish with a few varieties appearing very dark.

Ecology and Habitats

Anywhere there is sufficient food can support Hornacs, and a great number are domesticated. A few wild herds do exist, but mostly in the plains of New Minam or the plains southwest of the Henderent Plains region.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Almost all parts of the species are found to have uses. They are used as draft animals to pull things as well as being used for meat, milk and cheese production. The milk has less likelihood to cause allergic reaction than some other bovines. The horns and hooves are used for glues, the skin for a valuable reddish leather. The manure is used extensively in the cultivation of crops, as are the blood and bones.
