Goblins

Goblins are similar in appearance to elves, but are often shorter, with your average male goblin measuring up to only 1.6 meters high. Other differences include goblins having greenish brown skin, longer limbs, and little hair. Many believe that goblins and elves have a common ancestor, with evolution moulding elves to live in forests and goblins to dwell in mountains.   Goblins live semi-nomadic lifestyles. This means that their childhood years will be spent in one house. Then, when they reach a certain age (usually somewhere between 14 or 20), they will leave their parents house and begin a soul searching journey that can last for years. During this quest, they will usually join packs of other young adults. This journey will end when the goblins find a mate, often a member of another pack. Then, they will settle down wherever they meet their soulmate. In order for different packs to meet, many goblin towns will have centres specifically designed as meeting places. A result of this arrangement means that a goblin finding a partner comes down to luck, a key factor in goblin culture. Goblin’s believe that luck is a key driving force within the universe. Usually, goblins will divy up tasks among themselves through usages of dice or drawing straws, and many goblin stories involve luck as a key force.   Another key facet of goblin culture is hospitality. Most members of soul searching packs can expect to knock on someone's door, ask for food, and be let in. Whether or not this hospitality is also displayed towards non-goblins depends upon the individual goblin’s attitude. Not only that, but goblins consider charity to be extraordinarily important. Most goblin house’s will have special charity bowls, where money is often placed. The owner of this bowl will take it and find some way to give it to the poor. In olden days, this was done directly, but nowadays the existence of large organised charity groups means that goblins will generally just donate the money to them.   Many of the other specifics of goblin culture depend on where the goblins are, with the goblins being influenced by the other species nearby.   There was once a large goblin kingdom existing in parts of what is now The Diquin Empire, Daghur, and Nzemlia. This kingdom had no name, so it is often simply referred to as The Goblin Kingdom. It was occupied by Diqui under the leadership of Biantai II, but independence was granted in 1479. Shortly after, an epidemic of Root Worms would strike it, decimating the population. In 1608, it would fracture into three kingdoms. Two of these were conquered by Nzemlia, and would remain under Nzemlian control until the Catastrophe of Nzemlia.   Currently, a majroity of Goblins live in Agavarot, with many other group of goblins splattered around the North East region.
