Moklos

Moklos is a port town in Preica, built on the ruins of its past. It has seen empires come and go. Even though the town was sacked and completely burned to the ground, it never surrendered and still plays an important role in region of Preica as a trade port for the Merchant Republics.
Long ago, when the Empire of Akamta conquered the lands, Moklos was one of the few settlements that wasn't sacked. Its importance as a trade port made it a valuable asset to Akamta and allowed it to surrender peacefully. However, every empire eventually falls, and when Akamta fell a new overlord came in the form of the City-State of Pifor the Great; the new dominant power in the region.
Pifor quickly expanded and conquered all the island cities and many strongholds in southern Preica. For many decades Pifor ruled with an iron first, as the other cities-states of Preica watched Pifor expand. It didn't take long for the other Preic cities to form an alliance against Pifor.
In the following war, Pifor attempted to force the rebellious cities back in line with severe punishments. This led the Piforic nobility and generals to order acts of great cruelty against several of the allied cities as a means of setting an example for what happens to those that would oppose them. Moklos was one of the many cities that was razed and burned down during the war.
Eventually the northern merchant republics got involved, initially as supporters of the alliance, and later as foreign conquerers looking to capitalize on the vulnerability of the Preic cities.
After the Great Preic Wars, Moklos was under the control of the Republic of Assaen and was rebuilt on the remnants of the old town. Assaen repurposed part of the old Acropolis as a fortified keep for their appointed Magistrate to rule over the town. He struggles to maintain the balance between the town's autonomy and its allegiance to the merchant republics. Meanwhile, the old palace serves as a fort to watch over the harbor.
Within the town are preic temples dedicated the gods of old, while Callaeran churches work tirelessly to convert the citizens into the faith of the Great Balance.
