Derwon Castle
"Derwon Castle is a fortified city in The Fendalian Great Vale. The city is build on a steep hill between the Gynardan and Domart Mountains. During the War of the Vale the castle proved a key point and as such it has been besieged, assaulted and razed several times. After the War of the Vale, Margrave Anwil wrote up the Margrave's Law, a strict set of rules that are to be followed throughout his demesne aimed to restore the devastated lands before foreign invaders get a chance to attack.
Unlike Derbot Castle, Derwon was originally built as a summer palace for the Duke of the Vale's wife and children when the Burbric Empire was at its greatest extend. The region saw very little wars and lost its stregetic importance for a time. After the Sixty Year Rebellion the region was surrounded by enemies, and Derwon was repurposed to be a defensible fortress.
The old palace became Derwon Keep and sits on the highest point of the hill on which it is build. It is home to Margrave Anwil and his spouse. The Outer Walk, where the Duke's family once went on serene strolls down the hill, is lined with buildings, such as the servants quarters, stables and barracks.
Stone walls were quickly erected around the hill and later also the lower levels of the city that emerged. The entirety of the city is surrounded by a moat and cliffs. Its location on the hill, once chosen for the beautiful view, now makes it impossible to breach the keep without first breaking through the lower and upper walls.
Throughout the War of the Vale, Derwon has been conquered and reclaimed twice, before the final battle of the war, the Second Battle of Derwon, ravaged the city. much of the lower city and outskirts is in ruins and the walls are in terrible conditions with three full breaches. The Margrave has made it his first priority to repair the damage in and around Derwon, and then the rest of his demesne in order to be able to withstand the next Burbric attack, which the Margrave is certain is only a matter of time."
