Absalom Settlement in The Centurion's Riddle | World Anvil

Absalom

Absalom is a vast city state in central Avistan, known primarily as a global trade hub, the home of Wizard King Kesil, and the headquarters of both the Swords of Absalom and the Pathfinder Society. It is also the central hub of Avistan's rail system, with direct routes to every major city state in the region.

Absalom is broken into fourteen districts, described briefly below:
  • Ascendant Court: The center of worship in the city, and one of the most prominent districts.
  • Azlanti Keep: A massive fortress that protects the city, home to the First Guard.
  • Coins: The central district of the city, and the main commercial district.
  • Docks: The legendary, 5-mile-wide docks of Absalom.
  • Eastgate: The resedential district surrounding the city's eastern fortifications.
  • Foreign Quarter: An exotic district catering to the upper middle class, and the home of the Pathfinder Society.
  • Green Ridge: Managed by a legion of druids, this district serves as the region's primary source of food.
  • Ivy District: A tree-lined village focused on the arts, catering to the nobles of Absalom.
  • Merchant's Quarter: A bustling district full of offices and embassies, and a multitude of academies for engineers and arcanists.
  • Petal District: The richest district in Absalom, home to the city's powerful elite and noble families.
  • Precipice Quarter: A ruined district plagued by millenia of misfortune, but held together by a strong sense of community.
  • Puddles: The cesspool of a city in its golden age, riddled with crime and murder, home to the inescapable magic prison, the Last Stop.
  • Westgate: The culture-focused residential district that surrounds the western fortifications.
  • Wise Quarter: A district dedicated to the magical arts, home to the leading wizard's school in Avistan.

Demographics

As of the census taken in 2,686 ED, Absalom is 67% Human, 11% Halfling, 6% Half-Elf, 7% Gnome, 5% Dwarf, 2% Elf, and 2% other races. Given the ongoing siege, goblinoid races are incredibly uncommon outside of the Puddles district, although they are considered rare even in that area.
