Magnetic staff

A staff... or a key

Magnetic staff is a mysterious item Father Albio found the first day after Awakening which led him to the vault full of food. 3 years later, when he passed away, the staff disappeared.
In the years following his death, two fragments of ancient knowledge depicting a similar tool have been found. One of them was a simple drawing of two female characters standing near something that looks like an altar. Both of them were holding things closely resembling the Staff.
The second was a written myth, a Tale of Two Priestesses of Spark, which describes both the two staves and the way one of them was lost.
If both of those sources are correct and the staff Father Albio possessed really is the staff from the myth, somewhere out there is its twin sister.

Known properties

Before its disappearance, only two powers of the staff have been discovered.
Directional magnetism - If one points one of the staff's ends forwards the staff will start to slightly pull in one of the directions until it points to its destination. It is unknown if the user can somehow choose the destination, however if the previous one is reached, the staff will start to point towards another, seemingly random place. What's interesting, if the goal is on another layer, instead of simply pointing upwards or downwards, the tool will instead point towards the closest usable point of transition between the layers (shafts, stairs, elevators).
Skeleton key - If the magnetic staff touches most of the metal or electrical locks, it is able to open them after a few seconds. Similarly, a lot of the devices mostly made out of metal or powered by the electricity can be powered up and used for a few minutes after the contact with the staff.

There seem to be some specific places, such as the food vault Father Albio found, that were specifically created to be opened by the staff. In the case of the vault, in front of its entrance, there was a slit that the staff perfectly fit in.

Looks

The staff is a 1.6-meter tall metal rod, empty on the inside, with a hexagon-shaped base on one end and blunt, 10-centimeter long spikes sticking out upwards in all directions on the other end. As someone described it, it looks as if "someone tried to make a really ugly metal coat rack". The staff weighs around 4kg. The specific metal it is made out of is still unknown, however, it is very durable and resistant to the corrosive properties of the sunlight of The Surface layers. Its hue is similar to copper.
