Floatiness

Most of the species of giant, insect-like Beasts from Above that invade The Surface layers of The Pit have either an ability to fly or float despite their weight. This is because on the bottom-side of their bodies, there are hundreds of small gas bladders, organs filled with an unknown gas, which lower the weight of anything they are attached to.
Lately, a new property of theirs has been discovered. If all of the juices within the gas bladder get squeezed out, they can be used as a pretty strong ointment for burns. However, using them has interesting side effects. Covering someone with them both lowers their weight and makes them float when they fall.

Symptoms

The first thing one will notice is the sudden drop in the weight of the one covered in ointments within the first minute. Change of as much as 33% of body weight has been noted. Just because of that property the ointments are often taken on any expeditions as they let people transport any wounded party members much easier.
The second effect activates only if the whole body of the affected person starts to fall. In that case, they will fall half as fast as they should. Despite what one may think, their bodies will still feel the drop as they normally would, so the jumping from high places is ill-advised. This can, however, be used to quickly travel horizontally or traverse holes and chasms.

Treatment

There are two simple ways to stop the floatiness. One can simply wash off the ointment from their body or just simply wait it out for the ointment to be absorbed into the skin or dry out. This usually takes between 1 and 2 hours.

Application in sandboarding

As soon as the properties of the gas bladder ointments were discovered, those who traversed the desert wasteland of the Surface layers by Sandboarding decided to try them out. And while in the sandboards whose traveling method is more focused on gliding the reduced weight of the user dramatically increases air time, for more standard models which slide on the sand the velocity of descent on dunes got negatively impacted once the "falling" property of the ointments started to take an effect.
