Disney Cities

The Disney Cities were an initiative of the second dynasty of the resource management world government, established under the auspices of the Bureau of Economic Affairs in 2325.
During the Dislocations and especially after the turmoil that followed the Sack of London in 2096, Western Europe had sunk into a prolonged cultural and economic slump and later struggled to thrive as world society started to be restablished under the first dynasty of the resource management world government. Even two hundred years later, when the golden age of adventure was opening up the first extra solar colonies, it remained relatively poor. In an attempt to foster the development of the region, the second dynasty of the resource management world government sought inspiration from 20th century history, looking to ideas drawn from the old Disney theme parks as a mechanism to drive tourism and organise labour.
The Bureau Of Economic Affairs granted franchises for private operators to run a massively scaled up version of the theme park concept, organised at the level of a whole city. Within a Disney City, the local board had sweeping powers to administer virtually all of the local economy and to bend it to the goal of attracting rich tourists (usually from North Africa and later from alien worlds). The production of great pagents and historical re-enactments were common, using casts made up of thousands of citzens. Faux "rebuildings" of famous lost pieces of architecure usually owed little to scholarly accuracy and everything to marketing strategies to appeal to visitors.
The Disney Cities reached the height of their influence under the third dynasty of the resource management world government in the late 24th and early 25th centuries. Under the fourth dynasty they had already begun to decline with two public revocations of the charter of Berlin and the charter of Paris famously announced by the King of Earth.
An edict of the fifth dynasty of the resource management world government revoking the charter of London abolished the last of them in 2545.
