The Blossom Chariot

Every year, the Festival of Blossoms is celebrated with many preparations. It's a holiday with fairly ancient roots, but today it is mostly associated with families, weddings and marriage proposals, rights of passages, and celebrating the coming of age of the young adults. It is officially celebrated for 2 weeks, but the final half is often celebrated more strongly and looked forward to the most.   The Blossom Chariot is the name given to the vehicle delivering the blossom showers marking the beginning of the second half of the Festival of Blossoms. Chariot is a bit of a misnomer as the vehicle can take the form of simple riding animals, carts, actual chariots, or even - in the case of the larger and wealthier cities - airships. The chariot is considered a symbol of good fortune and renewed prosperity.   Blossoms are gathered throughout early Spring, usually as part of the children's civic duties. They will be kept in storage and preserved magically if required in order to remain fresh for the celebration. If not enough blossoms are gathered, local arcane users will be enlisted to magically create some, either in advance and/or on the day.   The chariot or chariots, and usually whichever animal may be used to pull them, is decorated with bright, multi-coloured ribbons. The chariot is then loaded with the blossoms. The chariot is then driven through the town from East to West, symbolically following the path of the Sun. The driver loudly proclaims the start of the festivities as they go, scattering the blossom along the route. The chariot will stop at a designated point, usually the centre of town where food stalls and tables will have been erected in preparation. Once the driver has taken their seat at the main table, the second half of the Festival of Blossoms truly starts.
